Midautumn 2017: Summer Palace presents 'Mid Autumn Flavours'

Image
~Invited Session~ Summer Palace at Regent Singapore is paying homage to our origins as a sleepy fishing village as well as a port for spice trade that would later transform Singapore into a bustling city. This Mid Autumn's, Chef Leong Kwok Sing has created two new spiced snow skin variants to tempt the tastebuds of customers. These seasonal specials are showcased in a collectible unique mooncake box, a structured box made out of fine grained pine wood, which takes inspiration from a spice carrier with scenes of old Singapore carved in the illustration. Stored in these recyclable tins, mooncake storage has gotten way better! I always fuss over keeping them air tight since they usually come in non resealable packaging and in some cases, all exposed. When in doubt, go for the assorted.  Pineapple and Pink Peppercorn ($69) U nconventional but  this flavour stands out because of the powder soft chilli-infused skin. Infact this was my favourite of the collection, the mild heat from pep

Firebake Bakehouse and Restaurant @ East Coast Road

Image
Firebake - Woodfired Bakehouse and Restaurant is a unique bakehouse and restaurant featuring Singapore's first-ever full-scale woodfire bread oven. Behold the restaurant's centerpiece - a pair of woodfire bread ovens hand-built from 37 tonnes of brick, sand and mortar, in which the bread is baked and selected dishes are slow-cooked. The types of bread available. Spot the bacon loaf! Firebake Bread Board ($10) The breads come with a selection of butters to choose from and truthfully, I prefer eating my bread as it is. Our board was a selection of organic sour doughs and the fig raisin was exceptionally outstanding for me. The embedded dried fruit and thick crust was very enjoyable. Woodfired Pumpkin, Burrata, Pistachio Dukkah, Orange Blossom, Molasses ($16) Burrata was tasting more like a mozzarella instead of the creamy and soft burrata that I am used to. Pumpkin and the other condiments made up for it with the eyepopping colours. Woodfired Jerusalem Artichoke Soup ($15)

Ramen Champion @ The Central

Image
~Invited Session~ Ramen Champion’s newly minted full-service restaurant at The Central is home to popular Japanese Ramen brands like Tonkotsu Ikkyu, Menya Ryu, Buta God and Joshoken. At this full service restaurant, diners can tuck into a salad buffet with their mains and enjoy the gorgeous view of Singapore River too.  With every order of mains, diners can top up $4 to enjoy unlimited servings at the salad bar which offers over 20 dishes ranging from fresh greens to pasta salads and dessert! Mentaiko anything got me tempted; mentaiko sauce, mentaiko potato salad and pasta too!  Amongst the new dishes available here are:  Special Tonkotsu Pink Ramen ($15.80) ,  This is one of five ramen dishes which comes with eye-catching coloured broths. Pink ramen comes with a antioxidant packed blueberry and beetroot broth, a result of several hours of simmering.  Magma Ramen ($14.80) Served in a hot stone bowl, this ramen offers custo

Blue Lotus Chinese Eating House @ Quayside Isle

Image
Blue Lotus Grill House wowed me so much, I reserved a table at their flagship store shortly after just for a taste of those crabs. It's beginning to look alot like Mid-Autumn with these lanterns hanging all over.  King Prawn Truffle Wonton Soup ($12) One wonton in the umami broth that definitely created an impression at first whiff than first sip. This was good, just not great enough to kickstart the rest of the heavenly dishes we were just about to embark on. Blue Lotus Signature Chilli Pomelo Crab  ($8/100g) Fiery red crabs in a shower of tangy, mildly spicy and lipsmacking delicious gravy.  Wong Ah Yoke was not wrong in classifying this the "King of Chilli Crab", and I may have disagreed with his previously glowing reviews, this was completely justified. 1.1 kilos and six mantous was more than sufficient for both of us and the bibs are a must to don, else face a splashing red affair. Wok-fried Kagoshima Wagyu Beef Tenderloin  ($48) The stone pot wa

VIOS by Blu Kouzina is on the Deliveroo bandwagon!

Image
~Invited Session~ I'm sure by now you'd know how much I love living the lazy life - the best scenario is having all my necessities delivered to my door step without lifting a finger more even. VIOS by Blu Kouzina launches a Greek Grain Bowl menu to celebrate their launch on Deliveroo. Available to residents in Katong, this concept puts together delicious customizable bowls with familiar middle eastern favourites to the likes of hummus, meatballs, grilled eggplant, tzatziki, spicy harissa dip and even grilled lamb! My lunch delivery looking less than spectacular probably from the rocky journey but I am not complaining. They smelt so good! Supagreens, Basmati White Rice, 3 Bean Dip, Mushrooms, Zucchini, Eggplant, Indian Inspired Dal, Arvo Sauce, Flax Seeds, Pine Nuts The supagreens comprised of a m ix of shaved broccoli, brussels sprouts, white cabbage which was the ultimate nutritious vegetable mix for me. I love how this was super wholesome and the dips gave it extra flavour.

Amo @ Hong Kong Street

Image
Amo at Hong Kong Street has been causing abit of buzz with their instagrammable dishes, a botanic themed backyard and a open kitchen so inviting...not forgetting the old school gates that marries both the past and present in one. There are so many design elements that get me going - #dreamkitchen #dreamcorners #dreamon. That said, I was apprehensive about Amo...as with most other places that get a wee bit too much exposure on social media. Yet, the birthday girl's wishes always trump and so it was to Amo for a celebration. Burrata with Eggplant Salad and Bottarga ($24) The cheese fan in me screams hola. So good with the eggplant salad which is not the usual choice of greens for a cheese salad and those sprinklings of bottarga. A lovely plate of textures and creamyness, and definitely an appetizing start to the meal. Crispy Calamari with Sumac and Sundried Tomato Aioli ($22) Light batter around such tender rings, the sundried tomato aioli is the bomb dip with these popcorn ca
