Bollywood Veggies Revisited @ Neo Tiew Lane

Image
Thanks to the twoddler, heading up north is not so frightful anymore - we headed to zoo, hay diaries and could even squeeze in a spot of time for Bollywood Veggies again! This time I was there to check out their Warrior's Thali ($22 for 2), a platter comprising of Farm Tempura, Bolly Wings, Dahl, Warrior's Chicken Curry, Warrior's Fish and Mixed Vegetables. Said bolly wings which was actually fried chicken winglets and curry leaf tempura. Warrior's Chicken Curry which was crowd friendly in my opinion, more of a stew than curry since it lacked the spicy oomph I was looking for. Favourite of the platter goes to these fish fritters and sweet and sour sauce, so good, I would have ordered this as a mains! Dhal curry, a tad watered down but I am not going to fuss about it. I thought the Nasi Lemak Platter had more value than this actually, but I am glad I checked both off my to try list. Hainanese Chicken Chop ($12.90) It is a pity the other famous specials like l...

Hill Street Coffee Shop @ Chinatown Point

Image
Hill Street Coffee Shop like Kiliney offers the kopi tiam experience at slightly higher prices but in air conditioned comfort. Rendang Chicken Nasi Lemak ($6.90) Fragrant basmati rice made this a hearty breakfast choice. Achar, belachan and ikan bilis are my staples when it comes to nasi lemak though I wish it came with an omelette too. Salted Egg Chicken Nasi Lemak ($8.90) Their newest creation and it had to be the salted egg sauce that got me, doused over a fried chicken cutlet and served over a blue pea rice. It was legitly delicious though gimmicky. I say stick with the normal nasi lemak for the real deal. Minced Pork Noodle Set ($6.50) It is not easy pulling of bak chor mee, especially when the Michelin starred version set the bar for me. Their version was really delicious though missing out on the vinegar but nobody is really complaining - a good alternative without the queues and perhaps a fraction of the satisfaction. Hill Street Coffee Shop surprised me with the quality of foo...

Food For Thought @ National Museum of Singapore

Image
I used to frequent Food For Thought at 8AM and also Botanical Gardens a fair bit and back then, brunch was the most important meal of the day and I saved my calories for their amazing pancake stack. If not for the recent first birthday celebration I attended at FFT that National Museum, I actually would have lost track of their closures and re-openings. The location's really top notch for families since a day at the museum sounds like the perfect way to expose the little ones to art appreciation. Fries with Sambal Mayo ($8) Sold on sambal mayo, I overlooked that the pork cutlet I ordered also came with fries. The cheaper alternative is to top up 50 cents for mayo with that! This was more mayo than sambal though, and the fries were not that great so I could have just gone with the spam fries instead. Spicy Creamy "Mee Siam" ($20) Prawn linguine, red capsicums, lime I love this! Understated two dishes in one - spicy mee siam flavoured pasta and to some extent it reminded me...

Gastrosmiths @ i12 Mall

Image
Gastrosmiths have relocated to i12 and paying them a visit at their new premises sure brought back memories of their humble beginnings at Katong Shopping Center. I kinda grew up with them... Cauliflower Arrabiata ($7) Burnt cauliflower topped with cheese shavings and a tomato based sauce made this a really delectable appetizer. I love my greens and usually cauliflower is not my top choice for greens but the kitchen definitely did this vegetable decent justice. Angus Cheese Burger ($14) Single patty sandwiched between two sesame buns and a side of pickles, this is my single patty angus cheese burger. I like the simplicity of it without the frills of too much sauce or fuss of side salads. Who said fries is a must anyway? Juicy charred patty and lots of love later, this needs another order in my revisit.  Fried Hiroshima Oysters ($9.50) Oysters and caviar go straight into my order list and the batter was unfortunately too thick. Fried Oyakodon ($9.50) Chicken karaage on rice with furi...

Restaurant Labyrinth @ Esplanade

Image
I'm not sure exactly when I started being interested in paying Restaurant Labyrinth a visit and then never got down to doing so. What better time than a birthday, right? Fortunately or unfortunately for me, having a birth date always so close to CNY means some of the magic about the occasion is lost to CNY and the menus are mostly festive catered. Thankfully, their regular menus are still available and off I was whisked to be surprised by this award winning team. This cute as can be table décor, this pestle and mortar sure reminds me of the grand old days where these were useful for grinding herbs! Snacks from the Streets Bak Kwa scone with hand churned butter served alongside a medley of close to heart favourites. The team reinterpreted Panfried radish cake, rojak fritter and chwee kueh in the style of nasi lemak. Each was just so outstanding, it was a party in my mouth and these elements reminded me how much of a melting pot of cultures my little red dot is. That moment of eu...

Jiakpalang Eating House Revisited @ Alexandra

Image
I actually did not want to write about this - and it's just sad that Jiakpalang will be closing its shutters by the end of the month. My favourite chef, his amazing mod sin creations and the team that has made all this possible, SIGH. And for the last time I'd be paying them a visit, we had a belly good time with all our favourites and more. It was Christmas and I guess with the restaurant not as packed as it should be, the logical business decision would be to cut further losses. Truffle Fries with Gruyere Cheese ($12) This was the reason why we fell in love with Chef Nixon's creations - I mean truffle fries are one too many and while I embrace truffle oil, he was the one who first made it huge with a massive platter with gold flakes too . And I hope wherever he goes, this will be a signature still. Korean fried chicken, reinterpreted with yet another portion of truffle fries. I love my fried chicken, I do think that Korean fried chicken is pretty solid as comfort ...
