It was one of those lunch hour stopovers that happened so randomly and I found myself at the doors of Waa Cow, noob me failed to realize they have aburi bowls. Mentaiko beef Well I don't suppose rice bowls are even for the traditionalists anymore, considering how we bastardize them with eyepopping yet mouth watering toppings like mentaiko mayo, torched salmon and flamed beef. For one thing, they are delicious and I opted for a mini bowl ($9.90) for a first foray - no regrets with the melt in the mouth beef cubes and tasty mentaiko mayo. While the onsen egg was purely ornamental and probably was there for the protein calculation, the bowl worked for me and a second visit was definitely on the list. This actually looks bigger than it is but enough to tempt me for a return that I have yet to make! Waa Cow 5 Raffles Place, #B1-63

~Invited Session~ The Butcher's Kitchen has earned themselves a name in the beef bowl arena and one of their crowd pleasers is their flaming bowls - all thanks to a dash of cognac brandy that sets the bowl on fire, no puns intended. What makes The Butcher's Kitchen stand out is their pride in their sustainable suppliers (think "Eat well, live well"), they are carefully sourced and that contributes to the green effort to ensure our supply chain is sustainable. Once again instagram and fellow foodies have started the whole towering wagyu mountain don trend. At $19.90, my Wagyu Round Roast came with 250grams of piling beef slices. Balancing is quite an art with the servers, but I guess this is no architectural challenge for them anyhow given how they literally took the town by storm with its launch. Visually it was stunning and I have to admit thinking wow at first glance, and then the keenness evaporated when I sunk into a mountain of tough, odd cuts and more fat and indigestible bits than meat. Admittedly, I was sorely disappointed. The straw that broke the camel's back had to be the beef arriving cold, perhaps intended to be consumed like cold cuts and doused in an equally chilled starchy sauce. The sides of cheesy mocha and homemade tofu were still better than our mains proper though the tofu was way too dense for liking. Sandaime Bunji #01-14/15, 9 Raffles Boulevard, Millenia Walk
