Chilli's @ Tanglin Mall

Image
Chilli's has been around for eternity at Tanglin Mall's. And over lunch hour, it is almost empty without much crowd. Service was brisk and....who drinks at noon time? Apparently the crowd at Chilli's do. The all too iconic, Chilli's. All American diner vibes, from the bar counter to the counter seats and choice of tiles even. Santa Fe Chicken Salad Grilled chile-rubbed chicken breast, house-made pico de gallo, fresh diced avacado, chopped cillantro, crispy tortilla strips with house-made ranch dressing and a drizzle of spicy Santa Fe sauce. In other words, a chicken salad with ranch dressing. The only pity about this dish is the usage of chicken ham than chicken breast. Mix and Match Ribs Combo I love having the best of both worlds so it's original and honey chipotle ribs together. I prefer the latter for the savoury and mild heat over the generally sweet original ribs. Those homestyle fries and sweet corn on the cob were excellent with the finger licking yummy ri...

Don Ho Social Kitchen @ Keong Saik Road

Image
~Invited Session~ Keong Saik Road has a new kid on the block, DON HO Social Kitchen, a hip bar and casual diner that is all about spending good times together  with friends. For all you know, you may just befriend someone new on the dance floor or at the bar counter over a handcrafted tipple or seasonal nibble. Doors swing open at 6pm sharp everyday and be early to grab one of those cosy pods, anyhow seats are limited. Once clock strikes 10pm, the dancefloor is open and the disco ball starts spinning! Looking like straight off the pages of a home and furnishing magazine eh? Peaty Monkey ($20) Monkey Shoulder, Ardbeg 10 years, Orgeat Syrup, Fresh Lime, Pineapple Birds and Bees ($20) Solerno, Organic Almond Milk, Homemade Honey Lemon Syrup, Egg White I posed a challenge to the bartender to concoct a mocktail version of this with grapefruit juice. They recommend 3 dishes per guest and hoarding dishes are completely against their policy. I kid. Communal dining is highly encouraged, afte...

Gallery and Co Revisited @ National Art Gallery

Image
I probably never paid a Museum so many visits till Gallery and Co and imagine my delight when I realised they expanded their menu! Bonus came in the form of a relatively empty cafe over a weekend too - looks like we are back in the good old days of leisurely lunches at the Museum. Leisure begins with a cuppa. Otak Otak Taco ($17) Battered mackerel otak, roasted corn, fresh herb salsa, chilli aioli, fresh lime Still a favourite with the spicy otak fritter wrapped in taco and a medley of colourful toppings. Pomegranate pods provide that much desired tang in this otherwise very satisfying taco. Mushroom Pasta ($15) Roasted mushrooms, cream sauce, 63 degree egg, truffle oil One probably cannot go wrong with cream sauce and pasta with an onsen egg. Lemongrass Ribs ($18, half) I would not have expected these to be deep fried with a lemongrass batter - bone gnawing fingerlicking awesomeness. These make sticky ribs look so passe. Pink Guava Breton ($8) Too pretty to resist, I do not conside...

Santa Fe Tex Mex Cuisine (Stewords Riverboat) @ Marina South

Image
Marina South is a rather neglected part of Singapore and the only memory I have of it is the row of steamboat places with throngs of people every single weekend. I remember heading there once because of the television advertisement that promoted lobsters bigger than a 4 year old girl. Those steamboat sessions were far from great, infact super duper bad but those were great memories. Tex Mex 7 Layer Party Dip ($22) Mexican refried beans, guacamole, sour cream, cheese, pico de galo, chives, black olives, unlimited chips The party dip was less inviting, rather we were all sold on "unlimited chips" which was really just freshly fried nacho chips. Too much cream and the other ingredients were somewhat lost in the mount of cream. Otherwise, those chips are great for just nibbling on, even without the dip. Classic Caesar Salad and Grilled Chicken ($18) Romaine lettuce, caesar dressing I've never had a bad caesar salad, and this was delicious too. Grilled chicken with caesar ...
