Shake Shack @ Jewel

Image
Shake Shack needs no further introduction and since the days they opened their doors at Jewel, they have redefined "queuing for burgers". ‘Shroom Burger ($10.80) Burger King's Mushroom Swiss was my first love and I've clearly gotten irritated with the dwindling portions over the years. Meet Shroom that comes with a cheese filled fried portobello mushroom Dig into this hearty one with gusto to enjoy the burger fully. The juices that spill out and crunch, while I wish for more vegetables, this is one juicy number worth checking out. Shack Stack ($14.30) The best of both worlds in a burger - Shack burger and Shrooms burger in one. Sure did not look or feel like two burgers in one, in fact it fits quite snugly into my hand!  Look at that melty cheese! Cheese Fries ($5.90) I thought KFC's versions would have been my kind of comfort food for cheese fries, of course, this was before Shake Shack's version came into the picture literally. Crispy crinkle...

DC Comics Super Heroes Cafe @ Marina Bay Sands

Image
Themed restaurants are not my thing but DC Comics Super Heroes was near Sands Theatre and dinner had to be settled before my musical began. Not much choice apart from the food court that is perpetually burgeoning with people. We originally planned for pizza but the dough needed to rise and that would have taken 45 minutes - I'm not sure if it was the sheer timing of dinner at almost 645pm but having to wait 45 minutes for it sounded too incredulously long. If anything, they do their pizza doughs in house and that did pique my curiosity for a return. Aquaman VS Black Manta Burger ($28.90) Mentai prawn and cheese patty in black pepper bun, mesclun salad, shoestring fries Since it was the first visit to the cafe, I had to give these themed burgers a go as well. Comes with a cheese cut out logo atop my black bun which honestly did not taste like black pepper much save for the colouring. The patty was another story altogether - juicy, crusty and legit save for too much salt that was use...

Fat Burger @ Kinex Mall

Image
~Invited Session~ Say HEY to the new FAT in town, Fresh, Authentic and Tasty burgers hailing from the US of A. Known for juicy burgers, Fatburger will be co-branded with Buffalo's Express, known for chicken burgers and chicken sandwiches. If you can, try watching the kitchen move like a clockwork and deliver burgers on schedule! The legendary classic,  The Original ($7.50)  is fully customizable with toppings of pickles, tomatoes, lettuce, onions, relish and mayo. Juicy patties wins half the battle and I enjoyed the full works. That delicious shade of pink. Quad Burger ($15.90) The is original upsized four times over and it is massive. Only if you are hungry, the Quad Challenge is up for those with the appetite and would like a place in their hall of fame. Meet Baby Fat. Low carb options are available without the burger buns, I would have ordered the Baby Fat version if I knew earlier! Baby Fat's the slider size of their burgers and is included in their kids menu. As for t...

Erwin's Gastrobar @ Marina Bay Link Mall

Image
One would have thought that Marina Bay Link Mall over a weekend would be a dead town, and it turned out otherwise with a full restaurant and just 2 wait staff to handle. Service was naturally laggy and not the best of experiences with the restaurant. Raw ($10) Grilled Chicken (+$5) Rocket, shaved beets, carrot, broccoli, fine beans and almond flakes The kitchen probably forgot about the dressing when it was first served. Raw like the name suggests but nothing a dash of balsamic cannot redeem. Aglio E Olio ($14) Homemade linguine pasta, chilli flakes, garlic, parsley, olive oil These noodles had a certain density to it and I am definitely not complaining since this trumps pasta from packets but it lacked seasoning once again. We added our own dashes of balsamic, pepper and salt and it was pretty good. Beef Burger ($18) Chargrilled Black Angus beef, tomato, coleslaw, lettuce, onion relish and honey mustard on wholewheat flaxseed bun Sold on their handmade onion rings with real onio...

Jag Wine Bar @ East Coast Road

Image
There are just too many gastropubs in my hood and I decided to sneak in one for an early dinner with a toddler (totally expecting no baby chairs and they did!) so it turns out, families do bring their children to gastropubs too when the drink fix is so needed. Beef Bites ($12) Sirloin cubes, blue cheese sauce Admittedly sold on blue cheese sauce which was watered down, dang! I ended up with not so tender beef cubes and a watery blue cheese sauce. No complaints but no raves either. Smoked Duck Quesadilla ($10) It's cheesy, there's smoked duck and toasted. Perfect pub grub. Grilled Boneless Chicken Thigh ($18) Potato of the day, vegetables I'm not sure why but this reminded me of Aston's and heaps better! Juicy and comes with a slight char - so simple and they nailed it nicely. Angus Beef Burger ($20) Angus patty, melted cheese, tomato and sautéed onion in sesame seed bun and fries Every time I order a burger, more than half the time it is because of the fries and this bu...

Wolfburgers Revisited @ Changi City Point

Image
~Invited Session~ Whether tasting or not, Wolf Burgers has a soft spot and even after those tastings I have travelled to Changi City Point just for those satisfying burgers. It is with much regret that they had to close the shutters on Carvers and Co but I suppose with all good times, an end has to come and the management had probably chose a decision that was more viable for the business as a whole. So I digressed. This visit was all about their new range and for a limited time only if I may add. It is all about the basics this time, less on price and more on value. Their basics range starts from $6.90. Coyote Burger ($6.90) Ground beef, cheddar No frills and straight up a simple cheese burger that scores on satisfaction. The truth about Wolf Burgers is, they know their burgers well and beef burgers are the core of their business - juicy patties, lovely char and regardless of size they do them just so well. Crunchy Fried Chicken ($6.90) Chicken thigh, sweet Japanese curry, shredded ca...

25 Degrees Burger, Wine & Liquor Bar @ Middle Road

Image
~Invited Session~ 25 Degrees is an exciting burger, wine and liquor bar that originated from Los Angeles and in the most understated manner, it was the wine coloured wall paper interior that first caught my attention. Word has it that it is one of the places in Los Angeles that celebrities love being at. With both alfresco and indoor options, the swanky space sits up to 30 at a go. Business has been brisk and dinner it seems exudes a completely different charm altogether. From mouth watering burgers to stacked pancakes, there is something for everyone on their menu. 25 degrees as explained, is the temperature difference between a well done and raw burger. Heirloom Tomato Salad Tuscan Tomato Soup Too many tomatoes going on in our choice of appetisers but they were tasty choices. Black Magic Burger Fluffy charcoal burger buns makes this deconstructed burger an eyecatching number. Stack them and give it a good squeeze to bring on the eggporn works, it's almos...

PS Cafe @ Raffles City

Image
P.S. Café has finally arrived in town and claimed the accolade of hottest table for the month - reservations are only accepted by phone before 12 noon and the queue forms whilst the restaurant bustles and waiting time goes up to 30 minutes during lunch. Boohoo. Service is signature of PS Café, warm not intrusive, accommodating not exceptional but I was really there for the ambience and PS signatures (damn us for overordering and I missed out eating the sticky date pudding!) As a caveat, the portions are huge hence the corresponding price tags. Beer Battered Fish and Chips snapper fillet, shoestring fries with homemade tartar, kaffir lime aioli The crispy batter was so addictive, I could've just eaten that alone and be satisfied. I like how any other fish is used apart from dory as the fillet, loved the kaffir lime aioli and who can resist fries? The PS Burger 200g wagyu, US chuck patty, vintage cheddar, wilted spinach, crispy smoked bacon, tomato, crispy onions, toasted sesame bun...
