Lin Rooftop Bar @ Link Hotel

Image
~Invited Session~ Lin, short for “Shu-Lin” which means 'forest' in mandarin is a contemporary Asian alfresco rooftop  bar and specialises in authentic Asian-infused cocktails, premium whiskeys, international shooters and specially selected beers paired alongside with Asian bar snacks and main courses. Located on the 5th floor of Link Hotel, this bar overlooks Tiong Bahru and definitely brought back memories of my bar hopping days - Loof at some point got brownie points for overlooking Cityhall without costing an arm and a leg! The Tipsy Pig ($18) Bourbon, Benedictine DOM, Bacon Strip For the thirsty and hungry, here's a cocktail that feeds and quenches. The incorporation of bacon and edamame beans is a lovely savoury touch to the other intense cocktail. Empress Har Cheong Wings ($11.80) Homemade Prawn Paste Batter, Home made chilli Zichar gone pub grub, these har cheong wings packed an addictive crunch and came with an equally delicious homemade chilli paste. Sticks & Wings @ Clementi

Image
~Invited Session~ Sticks and Wings brought us to Sunset Lane, a place that is completely foreign to the Easterner. And all along I thought it was just Sunset Way that was the most happening with cakes and icecreams and all the places I did not hang out as a young adult. Then comes Sunset Lane, a completely different stretch altogether that is studded with so many eateries! Sticks and Wings' humble beginnings started out at a hawker stall and subsequently a full fledged air conditioned eatery in order to bring BBQ food to the neighbourhood without the queues and heat of a hawker center. Grilled Chicken Wings (5 Wings, $8.80) These well charred and juicy wings come with an incredibly delicious house made chilli sauce, a recipe that the owner holds dear and sells in take home bottles. Prawn Omelette ($9.80) Fluffy and eggy, portions are generous and studded with prawns. Stingray ($18.80) Meaty and topped with yet another stunner of a delicious housemade belachan paste! The winning ...

Portico Revisted @ Alexandra Road

I have lost count of my visits to Portico and this time, I finally had a chance to say hi to Chef Nixon, the man behind all the delicious creations. Luncheon Meat Fries Yuzu Mayo Luncheon meat and I go back a long way and it is one of those canned food that I can never tire of, regardless the frequency. Bad food this is but who can ever resist these crispy savoury bites...and throw it a creamy dip, I am sold.  Portico Chicken Wings Lime Aioli Dip These signature chicken wings would give IKEA's a run for their money, juicy and so good. This is one of my favourite bar foods, not too dry and so addictive! Truffle Fries Truffle dip These were on the oily side this time but still on my list of favourite truffle fries. Bisque of Lobster Butter brioche, whole tiger prawn Mushroom soup wowed with its earthy tones and creaminess but this bisque fell short of expectations. It tasted very light, without any trace of the lobster origins, more like prawn broth. White Asparagus Risotto ($26) Th...
