Midautumn 2017: Summer Palace presents 'Mid Autumn Flavours'
~Invited Session~
Summer Palace at Regent Singapore is paying homage to our origins as a sleepy fishing village as well as a port for spice trade that would later transform Singapore into a bustling city. This Mid Autumn's, Chef Leong Kwok Sing has created two new spiced snow skin variants to tempt the tastebuds of customers.
These seasonal specials are showcased in a collectible unique mooncake box, a structured box made out of fine grained pine wood, which takes inspiration from a spice carrier with scenes of old Singapore carved in the illustration.
Stored in these recyclable tins, mooncake storage has gotten way better! I always fuss over keeping them air tight since they usually come in non resealable packaging and in some cases, all exposed.
When in doubt, go for the assorted.
Pineapple and Pink Peppercorn ($69)
Unconventional but this flavour stands out because of the powder soft chilli-infused skin. Infact this was my favourite of the collection, the mild heat from peppercorn, pineapple pulp in the filling and then chocolate. So ingenious!
Cinnamon Red Bean with Spiced Wine ($69)
Red bean paste filling and spiced wine ganache wrapped in a soft cinnamon spiced-infused snow skin. Cinnamon was overshadowed somewhat.
Black Sesame Paste with Melon Seeds ($67)
Think black sesame paste concentrate in mochi skin, so good I would eat this anyday over the soup version!
Green Tea with Melon Seeds ($67)
This mellow one is great with chinese tea.
The perennial bestseller, Durian ($72), known for its combination of Mao Shan Wang and D24 durian meat definitely smelt and tasted like the king of fruit.
