Acai bowls from The Acai Lab!

Image
~Mediadrop~ Acai bowls and I go way back in time and I miss the days of lunching out and heading over for acai before heading back to the office.  I really shan't bore with the nutrition statistics about acai bowls - they have been spoken to death and they are my to go for a healthy treat when the weather is so unforgiving.  Acai Bowl is a newly established company and they are Singapore’s largest, fastest and most popular acai delivery platform! I put their promise to the test.    60 minutes delivery They did good on this, my order and delivery happened all too fast and truly I got my fix when I really needed a cold treat! Don't you agree how some of these cravings get delayed satisfaction when the delivery time frame is way longer and I go from hungry to hangry. Now for the taste test! They have a variety of acai products up for selection: puree, bowls and DIY bowls.   Açaí Puree (14.12) I love my acai purees and there are days where I mix this with my overni...

Poke Doke @ Milennia Walk

Image
There are one too many poke bowls around and I guess it has reached a stage of same same but slightly different across board. I have my preferences but I am more than happy to welcome a new player in the market. Turns out on top of poke bowls, they also offered cooked food bowls - that reads as expensive chap cai png already. 3 sizes are available and differ only in number of scoops of poke. My record stands at four visits in a week, I think I am hooked. Between spicy and wasabi salmon, my heart goes on with spicy. There is just something about it that is well on point - hits all the right notes without being over the top. The flavours are well explored and infact regardless the combination, they come together in harmony. Tuna however, is not their forte. Gone poke-ing, be back soon! P.S. I have no qualms tossing to these individual pots of yusheng this CNY, so tasty and none of the artificially coloured vegetables nor overly sweet dressings. Poke Doke Millenia Walk

Gone nuts over acai!

Image
I am usually slow to taking on food fads and the acai berry is embroiled in my quest for healthier living. Mostly mispronounced, it is supposed to read ah-sigh-ee and this famous berry purportedly tastes like chocolate the more you chew on it. These acai bowls are fast replacing smoothie bowls as the must have and a ton of goodness goes into it from fruits, superfood seeds, coconut water as well as acai. Good things aside, I slurped my way into this many bowls to bring you this acai trail! NGreen 11 Collyer Quay, The Arcade #01-27 Acai Bowl ($7.90) Housed within a fruit and fruit juice stall is a corner that also caters to acai bowls. The bowl came with a medley of mangoes, dragonfruit,  kiwi, blueberry, strawberry, banana granola, goji berry, cacao nibs, coconut flakes and chia seeds. Goji berries made this tick, and the chocolate game was strong here. I actually liked it so much, it started my obsession with the acai berry. Absolute Acai 3 Pickering Street #01-38 Crunch Bowl...

Guac and Go @ Maxwell Chambers

Image
Food in bowls are the rage now which seems to have taken a revival since the days of chirashi dons. Beyond just salad, a whole new world opens up with the superfoods of today - avocado. Rich in vitamins and nutrition, this has taken center stage at Guac and Go. Replacing Once upon a milkshake, traffic is exceptionally heavy over lunches on rainy days and with space constraints, I would advise going in groups. Manpower is terribly lean, one to man the cashier and double up as a waitress whilst the other two potter around the open concept kitchen trying to put together orders as fast as they can. That said, my lunch order took an average of 20 minutes on top of a 10 minute in line. It's raining avocados! Hummus and Guac Bowl ($14) 3 toppings of choice, lettuce, quinoa, guacamole, hummus and nachos This limited time special caught my eye with a couple of personal favourites included - nachos, guacamole and hummus! I paired them with cajun chicken, salsa and roasted pumpkin. ...

Traditional Hakka Thunder Tea Rice @ Jalan Berseh Food Center

Image
I'm not sure when I had my first bowl of thunder tea rice, or what prompted me to even attempt eating up a bowl of greens and rice with another bowl of green soup. Well, one thing's for sure...no turning back and the bowls seem to get tastier too! In the furthest corner of Jalan Berseh Food Center lies this hidden gem of thunder tea rice. It's so obscure, methinks only the loyal following would know and perhaps random folk like me. Thunder Tea Rice ($3.80) White rice There is a choice of white or brown rice to go with the bed of greens and yellows. I love how peanuts are served separately to maintain the crunch. That separate serve of thunder tea soup, a combination comprising of green tea and herbs is a delicate balance to maintain for most places. Some end up with an icky-grassy aftertaste, this stall's just right, a well balanced savouriness that makes polishing off the broth - sucha breeze! I love my greens and thunder tea rice just made this green affair all the ...

Green Dot @ Paya Lebar Square

Image
My knowledge of soy based dishes had been limited to O'Bean thusfar and I was pleasantly surprised to chance upon Green Dot. Paya Lebar Square seems to be an up and coming MRT Mall. Green Dot over peak hours like lunch and dinner is crazy packed - find your own table and forget about being waited on. The supposely fuss free way of ordering but they ended up having two ordering points for the mixed vegetables and rice and the rest of the menu. Confusion peaks when crowds are spilling over. The menu is comprehensive with their main ingredients being konnyaku, mushroom and soy. Hotpot seemed to be a popular choice, somehow. Shitake Mushroom Sauce with Soya Katsu ($8.90) Shitake Mushrooms, Beansprouts, Soya Slices, Cedar Leaves Springy and QQ, the noodles were the absolute bomb in this vegetarian bak chor mee dish. Even the mock minced meat was convincing! Enjoyed this dish tremendously. Laksa ($5.90) Noodles, Konnyaku Prawn, Konnyaku Slice, Tau Pok, Radish and Carrot Incredibly valu...

CBD Trail - Eating Clean

Image
Following the greens post , I decided to check out the online options of eating clean without having to move an inch from the office. Laziness does come at a cost. A number of these online offerings worth with gyms to offer gym bunnies and health nut wannabes like myself more options. In this game of convenience lies two camps - the heat and eat and the other, eat it straight.I am not an advocator of the microwave, hence the reviews done are solely one ready to eat meals without intervention. Everything is electronic - zero interaction with any over enthusiastic helpline nor pushy people in the queue where I need to check my options furiously and hand it over for processing. All is done with clicks of a button and lunch was on its way.  So does "whatever tastes good is probably not good for you" stand true? This convenience however is strangely only applicable to folks in acccessible areas - far flung areas after Jurong East are beyond the reach of these providers.  Grain ...
