Blue Lotus Chinese Grill House @ Tanjong Pagar Center

~Invited Session~ Blue Lotus Chinese Eating House has been synonymous with one of the island’s sought after chilli crab dishes (too much hearsay and admittedly I have not attempted one myself!) and innovative modern Chinese menus around town and their latest venture at Tanjong Pagar Center is a bold marriage between chinese cuisine and western grill techniques.     The decor is appealing with a chinois chic theme, personally I spent a great deal of time oogling at the painting of the pig and swimming goldfish fixtures amidst the colourful splashes. The partial open concept kitchen allows for the team to have a full view of diners and diners to have a feel of the pacing of the dishes as they get churned out really quickly.  While their signature chilli pomelo crab is nowhere to be found on the menu (bummer!), I was told then that all dishes are unique to the various outlets - and the crab is only available at Quayside Isle as with La Mian and Crab Balls here. CNY 2016: Paradise Dynasty @ Vivocity

Finding a place for CNY gatherings is usually difficult when it comes to big groups and worse when they restrict to just festive menus. My gang of almost 20 were lucky to nab tables at Paradise Dynasty that also offered the option of ordering from the ala carte menu. One main grouse, my table of 8 had 4 plates of steamed nuts served. Did they over order for the season? The mandatory yusheng which was thankfully my very last. No more, no more please! Spot the baby abalones used here and this fitted all 20 of us, children too. The mess thereafter, one that resulted in wastage and a bunch of very happy adults. Twas a decent yusheng with innovative use of baby abalones which makes it child friendly too. We rejoiced over the ala carte menu way too early because there were a ton of choices not available so I ended up with a spicy la mian that came with soggy noodles and a less than satisfying ordeal.
