SuperGreek @ Raffles City

Image
~Invited Session~ SuperGreek is our island's first Greek casual food kiosk and with a limited menu of just eight items created around souvlaki. These bowls come straight off their grain bowl menu and promise nothing but satisfaction. Both were recommended flavours for first timers. Grilled Chicken Steak ($9.90) Quinoa, Spinach, Mixed Salad, Roasted Pumpkin, Grilled Capsicum, Avocado Sauce, Hummus, Cucumber, Coriander, Sesame Seeds, Greek Vinaigrette, Chicken Breast Avocado sauce and hummus made my bowl sing - creamy and tasty with the medley of ingredients. Not to mention, hearty chicken breast that makes this more than a gym bunny's food. Fresh Norwegian Salmon ($14.90) Quinoa, Spinach, Lettuce, Roasted Sweet Potato, Roasted Pumpkin, Mashed Potato, Beetroot Sauce, Onions, Cherry Tomato, Greek Vinaigrette, Dill, Sunflower Seeds, Salmon If chicken is not up your alley, there's also omega 3 packed salmon bowl. My grilled salmon is moist and well seasoned with dill (you either...

Poke Doke @ Milennia Walk

Image
There are one too many poke bowls around and I guess it has reached a stage of same same but slightly different across board. I have my preferences but I am more than happy to welcome a new player in the market. Turns out on top of poke bowls, they also offered cooked food bowls - that reads as expensive chap cai png already. 3 sizes are available and differ only in number of scoops of poke. My record stands at four visits in a week, I think I am hooked. Between spicy and wasabi salmon, my heart goes on with spicy. There is just something about it that is well on point - hits all the right notes without being over the top. The flavours are well explored and infact regardless the combination, they come together in harmony. Tuna however, is not their forte. Gone poke-ing, be back soon! P.S. I have no qualms tossing to these individual pots of yusheng this CNY, so tasty and none of the artificially coloured vegetables nor overly sweet dressings. Poke Doke Millenia Walk

Chilli's @ Tanglin Mall

Image
Chilli's has been around for eternity at Tanglin Mall's. And over lunch hour, it is almost empty without much crowd. Service was brisk and....who drinks at noon time? Apparently the crowd at Chilli's do. The all too iconic, Chilli's. All American diner vibes, from the bar counter to the counter seats and choice of tiles even. Santa Fe Chicken Salad Grilled chile-rubbed chicken breast, house-made pico de gallo, fresh diced avacado, chopped cillantro, crispy tortilla strips with house-made ranch dressing and a drizzle of spicy Santa Fe sauce. In other words, a chicken salad with ranch dressing. The only pity about this dish is the usage of chicken ham than chicken breast. Mix and Match Ribs Combo I love having the best of both worlds so it's original and honey chipotle ribs together. I prefer the latter for the savoury and mild heat over the generally sweet original ribs. Those homestyle fries and sweet corn on the cob were excellent with the finger licking yummy ri...

VIOS by Blu Kouzina is on the Deliveroo bandwagon!

Image
~Invited Session~ I'm sure by now you'd know how much I love living the lazy life - the best scenario is having all my necessities delivered to my door step without lifting a finger more even. VIOS by Blu Kouzina launches a Greek Grain Bowl menu to celebrate their launch on Deliveroo. Available to residents in Katong, this concept puts together delicious customizable bowls with familiar middle eastern favourites to the likes of hummus, meatballs, grilled eggplant, tzatziki, spicy harissa dip and even grilled lamb! My lunch delivery looking less than spectacular probably from the rocky journey but I am not complaining. They smelt so good! Supagreens, Basmati White Rice, 3 Bean Dip, Mushrooms, Zucchini, Eggplant, Indian Inspired Dal, Arvo Sauce, Flax Seeds, Pine Nuts The supagreens comprised of a m ix of shaved broccoli, brussels sprouts, white cabbage which was the ultimate nutritious vegetable mix for me. I love how this was super wholesome and the dips gave it extra flavour. ...

Autobus @ OUE Downtown

Image
Autobus first struck me as a bike shop, then the salad bar tempted me. 3 types of salads are available - A ($12), B ($14) and C ($16) which works the same ala carte since the main difference lies in the number of proteins. On three occasions, I ordered Type B and they filled me reasonably. Mesclun Mix, Spicy Creamy Salmon, Cilantro Yogurt Baked Chicken, Crispy Chickpea, Broccoli,  Asparagus, Honey Mustard Mesclun Mix, Spicy Creamy Salmon, BBQ Pulled Pork, Sweet Corn, Broccoli, Asparagus, Honey Mustard Mesclun Mix, Teriyaki Grilled Squid, Slow Cooked Seabass (supplement $2), Broccoli, Button Mushroom, Asparagus, Basil Pesto  I enjoyed all my choices of proteins and it is a wonder how all taste just so good! The supplements are definitely worth the while since my seabass came with an incredible sear and crispy skin! This place is great for that poke fix and more, since there is also a selection of cooked proteins to pair and so far, this has to be the only themed restaurant that measu...

Guacamole by Gastro Therapy Group @ OUE Link

Image
The only time I'm on the overhead bridge from Chevron House to Fullerton Bay Hotel is possibly when I need to access either sides and hardly do I dine there on purpose. Guacamole is one of two dining spots along the stretch selling guac bowls. Standard Bowl ($11.90) Guacamole Topping ($2) Each standard order comes with 2 Proteins + 1 Base + 5 Fixed Toppings + 1 Sauce. I had my bowl with pasta base, grilled chicken and pulled pork with their 5 fixed toppings of salsa, corn, cabbage, black beans, red peppers, beetroot yogurt dressing and cheese! Both proteins were more than enough for the portion of greens and while I hoped there were other salad bases apart from cabbage available, it was a hearty bowl. I spiced my bowl up with splashes of habernero. Guacamole by Gastro Therapy Group OUE Link

Shake Salad @ AXA Tower

Image
Salad revolution has arrived with the vending machine - I would not have imagined this happening a good ten years ago when I got hooked on vending machine hot sandwiches. The promise of freshness guaranteed is very tempting indeed, and I am just wondering how they handle wastage.  The entire experience was fussfree, non interactive (hooray for loners like me!) and very pleasant. Cashless even and really, this is what dining will be in the near future. All I need is a decisive mind.   There is a choice of salad base, caesar, kale, mesclun and chopped and dressings too, from low fat to full fat and of course proteins which come at a supplement.   Mesclun Salad ($5.90) Chicken Breast ($2) Honey Mustard Dressing I love how this comes with a reusable tupperware and the toppings and dressing is served separately so that ensures the salad remains fresh and crisp till I eat. This addresses the point about salads turning soggy if they are not eaten within a certain freshness window period. Shak...

Salmon Samurai @ 100AM

Image
Salmon Samurai replaces Shinkansen at 100AM offering salmon bowls - rice, salad and sushi. Like all takeaway corners, there is an order cheat for you to tick your preferences, hand it over to cashier, pay and wait for the order to be served. There is unfortunately nothing to scream about their salmon apart from the fact they are on the same hip wagon as the poke bowls and there is sushi additionally. I did not like how salmon skin was also tossed in, the salmon gets cut so thin to maximise usage of the salmon flesh. Granted this is supposed to be a poke bowl but with just salad, salmon, tomatoes and a dollop of pre-made wasabi, there was no value for a return. Bowls start at $9.90 and a ton of supplementary options are available for superfoods, avocados and roe. Salmon Samurai #03-22 100AM

Wheelhouse Revisited @ The Tanglin Club

Image
I love dining at the recreational clubs because of the great value meals they offer. Surely the membership fees count towards discounted food but that said, I still love a good deal when I see it. Wheelhouse at Tanglin Club is a casual bistro style family restaurant with no age restrictions (this is especially important when baby is in tow).  Their $15.90 salad buffet was the steal. Freshly baked bread which comprised of bread rolls, artisanal loaves and even bread sticks with the must try herb butter. This has been the winning combination for me since the day I discovered the magic of these two together. And pile on the salads we did. The combinations were endless and even the self toss station for rojak was delicious. I love mine laden with enough prawn paste for the extra punch and more pineapples and tau pok instead of cuttlefish. On top of all the greens, there was a hot dish of the day. These oxtails were the bomb - meaty and jellied goodness all gone in a single slurp. The most ...

The Drunken Poet @ Orchard Road

Image
The Drunken Poet is one of those Irish Bars along Orchard Road that would be so easy to miss if one walks too fast or is too fascinated with the phone. On a sober day, this would be easy to spot given its striking exteriors and cute sounding name. On a totally unrelated note, being drunk does give courage - though I'm not sure  how many poets have written beautiful pieces with a fuzzy mind. A pretty cosy restaurant by day! All eyes on those packets of nuts - you mean, they aren't given free with drinks anymore? This just says how long I have not actually had a tipple by the bar anytime after 8pm. Drinks on the tap. I can imagine myself lounging in one of these cubicles - which begs the question, why haven't I? I've shunned away from bars for food because they are usually all deep fried and the environment is hardly ever conducive for proper conversations - unless at lunch, it seems. Stout at any other time of the day is the right time. Just the right amount of froth wi...
