Salt Tapas and Bar Revisited @ Raffles City

Image
~Invited Session~ I have perhaps said this so many times, if I can have my way around meal times - there should be brunch, after noon tea and supper. Having a brunch worth waking up for, is a tall order. Egg Berentine with Bonito Flakes ($14) Combining both the eggs florentine and classic eggs benedict, this comes with the merriment of spinach and ham, a hollandaise spiked with dashi and topped with bonito flakes. Flavours are on point, and that home made muffin made it all the more heartier. Now, this is the single brunch item worth waking up for. Spanish Omelette with Spicy Sauce ($15) Thick and fluffy omlette studded with capsicums makes this a champ's breakfast with all the protein and fibre needed for the day ahead. Did I already mention the spicy sauce whets the appetite so, I could eat this everyday for the next week. Ciger Omelette with Mushroom Crepe Sauce and Green Onions ($15) The omu that the Japanese highly revere is one up from scrambled eggs, creamy and exceptional...

The Finest Tea Shop @ Changi Village

Image
Changi Village is a food village, more than the other unspoken reasons that it is known for. Further into the enclave we found The Finest Tea Shop. Known for tea, cakes and eggs, I thought it was interesting that there was none of the poached egg or even omelette on the menu. Either scrambled or sunny side up. I suppose being a cafe junkie does that to me - I know the brunch menu almost by hard and would expect staples. This menu board had me staring at it for a long time. Ondeh Ondeh cupcakes anyone? Who stole the cookie from the cookie jar? Cookies are a personal weakness. Teas, they say they specialise in. The menu was simple.  Hot and Spicy Smoked Salmon Salad ($5.20) TFTS Special Sauce I could do with more variety on the greens but at this price tag, no complaints. The egg affair. Bacon and Eggs ($8.70) Slightly different from the scrambled eggs option with beef bacon and sunny side up eggs - except there was none of the runny egg porn just hard egg yolks. Scrambled Eggs on T...

Ronin @ Hongkong Street

Image
Hong Kong Street is almost asleep on weekends during the day and I was almost surprised to find that there was a brunch place that came to live, Ronin is its name. The girlfriends have praised this place for their kickass coffee and sarnies and it took me a weekend to troop down. 8am opening hours sounds like a great place for early birds and even at 12noon, it was only starting to fill up - how I love lazy brunches. Their eat and drink menus are limiting which makes unavailable dishes more glaring - the much awaited curry rice and roast beef sandwich were out that day. Minimalist chic. Dining in groups more than 2 becomes a challenge as most big tables are meant for sharing or face coffee tables and aching backs. The pot of tea that was great for 2 cups. Iced Wicked ($7.50) Throw me to wicked looks on this, they say it is better hot than iced. I say, listen to the weather. Americano ($4.20) Dirty Ronin ($13) Chorizo, Gryuere, Soft Egg, Miso Mayo, Lettuce Great for 2, these 4 halves ...
