Blue Lotus Chinese Grill House @ Tanjong Pagar Center

Image
~Invited Session~ Blue Lotus Chinese Eating House has been synonymous with one of the island’s sought after chilli crab dishes (too much hearsay and admittedly I have not attempted one myself!) and innovative modern Chinese menus around town and their latest venture at Tanjong Pagar Center is a bold marriage between chinese cuisine and western grill techniques.     The decor is appealing with a chinois chic theme, personally I spent a great deal of time oogling at the painting of the pig and swimming goldfish fixtures amidst the colourful splashes. The partial open concept kitchen allows for the team to have a full view of diners and diners to have a feel of the pacing of the dishes as they get churned out really quickly.  While their signature chilli pomelo crab is nowhere to be found on the menu (bummer!), I was told then that all dishes are unique to the various outlets - and the crab is only available at Quayside Isle as with La Mian and Crab Balls here. What I smart move to ...

Afternoon Tea @ 10 Scotts Lounge, Hyatt Hotel

Image
High Tea sessions have somehow resumed its frequency in my dining schedule, for a strange reason. And I thought I bypassed  that level of leisure in my life to prefer high tea to brunch and dinner. Hyatt it was then for a session of nibbles and tea then! I'd suggest requesting for a table with proper chairs for a more comfortable dining experience. Sitting on sofas with equally low coffee tables is possibly the worst combination for a leisurely afternoon tea session. Two tiers are served alongside a buffet spread with Hyatt signatures like homemade sustainable crab cakes with remoulade sauce, curry puffs and scones. The buffet spread is limited - none of the freshly shucked oysters as mentioned on their website but a live station that changes weekly serving unlimited servings of flambed minute steaks, a cheese counter and a selection of sweets. Chef on standby to flambe steaks!  Sear those filets. Watch those flames. Cheeses, galore! And look at that beautiful mould on th...

The Assembly Ground @ The Cathay

Image
The dining outlets at The  Cathay have changed so many time hands  that I lost track, The Assembly Ground is both a lifestyle shop and cafe. There is just something about hung lights, fairy lights and brick walls that make cafes extra cosy. My life goals scribbled on the wall. Dried baby's breath, another of my cafe floral favourites. Their menu was 2 pages worth with reasonable variety. Nymph of the Nile ($6.50) I definitely was not expecting a tea bag in a cup, and at $6.50 refills could be done on our own with the complimentary hot water supply at the side. That said, it just threw me off guard with a tea bag in a cup. Americano ($5) Truffle Fries ($10) Straight Cut Fries, Parmesan, Truffle Oil, Truffle Aioli Greasy tummy fillers, the passe truffle fries still gets my vote every time I spot it on the menu. Truffle probably greeted us at first whiff and that was just about it, it could very well have been passed off as ordinary fries. Warm Mushroom and Baby Spinach ($11) Medley ...
