The Wicked Garlic @ Cineleisure Orchard

These guys practically own the lunch scene at International Plaza and it used to amaze me how people are willing to smell like their lunch. At their second outlet, there's a lot more space and ventilation is so much better! Gnocchi with Truffle Cream Sauce ($22) Handmade gnocchi filled with potato, tossed with bacon cream sauce, parmigiano cheese shavings and drizzled with truffle oil First up, the gnocchis were fried so the classic fans would take offense at this audacious move. I still enjoyed my fried nuggets and found the pairing of bacon cream with cheese terribly filling. Great for sharing else risk a food coma. Curry Prawn Risotto ($23) 6 King sized prawns, Italian Arborio rice, local curry spices I love my curries and risottos separately yet when placed together, it ended up way too heavy. The curry powder after taste was overpowering and ended up confusing - was this meant to be a dry curry or risotto dish? Granchio E Pepe ($15) Homemade tomato sauce, crab meat, peppercorn...

FOO'D By Davide Oldani @ Empress Place

February is my favourite month, Chinese New Year not withstanding since there are a couple of special occasions in that month and this year the Hubba whisked me off for dinner to celebrate us still being married to each other. Chuckles aside, he let slip it would be a fusion menu from a celebrated chef.  I've clearly forgotten which food and beverage establishment was previously at the Victoria Theater, anyone remembers? Caramelized Onion, 20 months Aged Grana Padano, served Hot and Cold A single sweet onion tart with flaky layers topped with a scoop of cheese mousse. Hot and cold both met in this appetizer, I loved the textures but found the sweetness too much.  Frenc...

Gourmet Pop-Up Market @ Jamie's Italian, Vivocity

Image
~Invited Session~ Jamie’s Italian VivoCity recently launched their first ever Gourmet Pop-Up Market in partnership with Somersby over the last weekend. Given how Farmer's Markets and Gourmet Markets are all the rage now, this is one perfect stopover for families and cooks alike! A number of booths were set up in the al fresco area of the restaurant and this particular booth got my interest most! Pity none of the fresh produce were available for retail. The very delicious sounding board of fresh produce! We were made to guess which fruit and vegetable corresponded to their foreign sounding names. Beautiful harvest platter. All eyes on the "World's Hottest Chilli" which I instantly recognized as the Maldivian Chillies savoured in Maldives. The lingering heat that chokes the throat and tastebuds is definitely not for the faint hearted but trust me, it was every ounce of satisfaction for the chilli padi lover in me. Now, the bak chor mee stalls should have an ultra spicy ...
