Seafood Paradise @ Vivocity

Image
~Invited Session~ After a two year hiatus, Seafood Paradise is back! Bigger, better and of course, with it a slew of unbeatable promotions.  To celebrate its reopening, the restaurant is holding a month-long promotion: 50% Off Nostalgic dishes. Talk about WOW, no wonder tables were full when I had the tasting. Deep-fried Cheese Bacon Roll ($12.80,4pcs)     I love my deep fried snacks and toss in cheese, you have a winning receipe, except, it was a tad too saucy. \   Crisp-fried Baby Squid ($15.80) MUST TRY. These crunchy nibbles are so addictive, I can easily polish off a plate on my own and live to regret the next day.      Poached Live Tiger Prawn with Chinese Herb in Superior Stock (Drunken Prawn) ($29/300g, $41/450g, $53/600g) Succulent prawns in an equally comforting broth, this is so good! Great for rainy days and the broth on its own is already a winner. Promotion alert! From 3 May to 9 May: Poached Tiger Prawn in Superior Stock with Chinese Herbs is going at 50% off and limite...

Frementle Seafood Market Revisited @ Clarke Quay

Image
I've been to Frementle previously for lunch and dinner appealed this time round for the river side view particularly. Trust the family to make all the odd choices this meal but that is the beauty of discovering food gems - if even the least popular dishes ordered can wow, that does say something. Trio Fish Poke Salad Salmon, tuna, hamachi sashimi, roasted goma dressing I least expected poke to be on their menu and here's us being ridiculous ordering raw fish at a seafood place (not quite a usual sight actually). Surprise, surprise...it turned out way better than expected and the raw fish was really fresh! Sashimi Platter Salmon, Hamachi, Tuna We had more guts and ordered a sashimi platter. This definitely set the stage for more of these platters at seafood restaurants in general. Tom Yum Prawn Tiger prawns, onion, tom yum aioli, mozzarella cheese, mesclun salad I'm really not sure why we decided to order all the menu underdogs, and the most audacious version has to be a p...

Ah Chui Seafood @ Ayer Itam, Penang

Image
My real intent of visiting Ayer Itam is for Ah Chui. Seafood is high on the agenda and fact is, they only do seafood. Don't expect pork, beef or chicken at this humble outlet.  This open concept kitchen right infront of the restaurant is such a smart and efficient usage of space. They have clearly taken a leaf from the high end restaurants about being open and clearly nothing to hide from the public. It does shed some light about what does behind the scenes and hygiene is out for everyone to view!  Picking the day's freshest catch is one of the exciting things before dinner. Even with live seafood, the spread is sufficient.  Scaling and cooking are all done in different stages, but all in the front of the restaurant.  Signature fish ball soup I'm typically not one to order fish balls, much less fish ball soup per se. These were unlike the commercial bouncy fishballs, with more bite and less chewy. A first time ever, I asked for seconds.  Stir fried sweet potat...

Restoran TKK 天公仔海番村 Revisited @ Johor Bahru

Image
This was by far the most memorable meal in JB - we jammed a total of 4 hours getting into JB one public holiday and only had time to do 1 thing. Eat. TKK needs no further introduction and we had all our favourites, except the crabs that I was not in the mood for. All for less than SGD 90 amongst 4 of us. I love how chill this place is, food is always on point and crowds are better controlled. Restoran TKK 天公仔海番村 Lot 684 Kampung Teluj Jawa

Long Jiang Seafood (龙江海鲜) @ Clarke Quay

Image
~Invited Session~ Long Jiang Seafood has made it way into the heart of Clarke Quay with this new outlet and offering diners comforting dishes with a Sichuan touch. Double Boiled Crocodile Soup I love my soups and I have my Cantonese roots to thank for this appreciation. Like any regular double boiled soup, this had the full works for a hearty affair. Tum warming and packed with so many delicious ingredients, like snake meat soup there was a lovely warmth to it. Steamed Shark Meat was all collagen and bones. A massive spectacle to behold actually and the generous serving of spring onions and fried lard bits made me salivate. No need for collagen drinks or hotpots, get it straight up and neat off this dish! I already love my yong tau foo and these crispy beancurd skin pockets stuffed with prawn paste was absolutely delicious. These stuffed brinjals remind me of yong tau foo still and the gravy is spot on - tasty and so yummy with just rice alone! Roast duck is another must try with th...

The Pelican Seafood and Bar Revisited @ One Fullerton

Image
For starters, I do not consider myself a fish lover, and if I had things my way, maybe raw fish would apply and until The Pelican, having a fish pie to myself was unheard of. Through the years, Pelican Seafood and Bar has been one of those comfort food places that I do not visit often and when I do, I always wish for returns. Woodfired Grilled Chilli Cheese Corn ($14) Barely spiced with chilli, this is just grilled corn niblets with cheese at best. Steamed Broccolini ($14) Overpriced greens. Grilled Barramundi ($38) Spinach, Bacon Salad S napper Pie ($40) Asparagus, Mushrooms, Cream Sauce After a mandatory 25 minute wait, my long awaited snapper pie arrived. Baked to golden brown, the snapper pie was expertly knifed and the cream of fish emerged. Piping hot and the portions seem remain the same since I first tried it. Except it just was not as satisfying as I remember it to be. The Pelican Lobster Burger ($58) Bacon, Cheese, Old Bay Fries Move over lobster roll, this lobster burger hi...
