Dolcetto by Basilico Revisited @ Regent Hotel

Image
By now, it is no secret how Regent is top of my list for food and beverage in a hotel. Too many stunning concepts - Summer Palace Tenshin Manhattan Bar Tea Lounge Dolcetto by Basilico Basilico  The only outlet that I have yet to step foot on is oddly, Seoul While most of the items at the deli are to-go, I would highly recommend eating in especially in the comfort of their lush seating arrangements and having first hand view of what is fresh from the kitchen upstairs - that was how we nailed the Wagyu Beef Panini that was sold out on too many accounts! The only sets available are Soup + Panini ($18) Soup + Salad ($20) Otherwise, everything else is pretty much ala carte prices. Lobster Bisque ($9) Their elusive cream of mushroom was once again not available - but with lobster bisque on the menu, this was a tough fight for preference. The rich saffron hued broth served with toasted foccacia drizzled with olive oil and served with truffle oil was already stunning. Even without any trace...

Shahi Maharani North Indian Restaurant @ Raffles City

Image
I have long been interested in this particular north indian restaurant at Swissotel Stamford. Something has to be good with so many years in operations - 1997 until now! Plus, there was an irresistible lunch time offer that I could not pass up - 1 for 1 $50++ with a spread of curries, tandoori meat and even dessert! This gamble was worth taking considering their ala carte options were in the range of $15 for appetizers and $30 for mains. The full buffet area. Naan and papadum were placed immediately on the table and could be replenished throughout the meal. Crunchy bliss.  Tomato and Capsicum Soup Almost like minestrone, I would suggest giving their Mulligatawny Soup from the ala carte menu a try instead! Murghi Tikka   Boneless chicken  Rogan Josh Tender cubes of mutton simmered and cooked in a delightfully spiced gravy Machli Kolhapuri Fillets of fish cooked in a thick gravy flavoured with black peppers, coriander seeds and mustard seeds Tantalizing meat dishes, I found it hard to p...

Tavern Revisited @ The Tanglin Club

Image
Bar counters always intrigue me, especially when they belong to establishments with history under its belt. The Tanglin Club, was one of the pillars of social life in Singapore for successful members of the European community and still is one of the places to see and be seen. My own dad spent a great deal of his younger days at this bar over drinks, salted anchovies and peanuts.  I have a strange affliction for heavily starched and pristine white stiff table napkins. Salad, Soup and Dessert Buffet ($14.80) I usually do not think much of soups at buffets, and scoffed at this greenie which turned out to be the most delicious on the buffet spread. Chunky soup with green pea bits and croutons, a winning recipe! The selection of cold cuts and salads were limiting and there was also a portion for sushi and breads too. Overall a worthwhile buffet for those who want a detox! Crab Croquettes ($10.95) Romesco Sauce Breaded crab croquettes which put the highly priced ones to shame, these plump c...
