Festive Afternoon High Tea with Local Infusions @ Lobby Lounge & Bar, Holiday Inn City Centre

Image
~Invited Session~ Voted by Asia One readers as one of the best high tea promotions for 2019, this festive high tea set was revamped just for Christmas. The struggle is always real when deciding between savoury or sweet. I ended up playing safe with smoked salmon first then fell in love with their  Camembert cheese, black truffle and walnuts on Focaccia bread . Tuna with a touch of caviar spells luxe all the way. Scones are high tea essentials, tuck into these fluffy warm babies quick with clotted cream and fruit jam. Meet Chilli Crab pot pie that comes with a delicious gravy. A decent take on chilli crab gravy with the crisp flaky biscuit. More heat and crab chunks perhaps? More savoury tarts and pies! Chef insists on making his own tart shells so instead of the hard tart base, these are crumbly and buttery. Cempedak tart rules this plate with an aromatic stuffing that makes good of the fruit that gets you either loving or hating it. Spot the chendol tiramisu, pineapple cheesecake and ...

Violet Oon's National Kitchen @ National Art Gallery

Image
I've heard so much about the High Tea at Violet Oon's National Kitchen, curiosity did get the better of me and so was the price so armed with girlfriends, we had such an awesome time, we promised to do this again! 3 tiers sets the heart aflutter. Otak Crostini Spiced coconut cream fish quenelle served on a buttered crostini I love my otah sandwiches and this was a brilliant way of including otah in the medley. Kueh Pie Tee Julienne of bamboo shoot and turnip poached in a prawn bisque served in a deep fried "top hat" cup topped with prawn Not the best I have eaten but well it's peranakan, kueh pie tees and popiahs are just...synonymous with the cuisine. Pulled Beef Sambal Pao Slowcooked pulled beef in a spicy and sweet sambal served in a steamed bun Clever use of pulled beef here though the usual would be pulled pork but I guess sambal beef goes better to the tune of beef rendang, except this rendition was on the sweet side. Nasi Kuning Serunding Glutinous rice inf...

Afternoon Tea @ MO Bar

Image
~Invited Session~ With the all new MO Bar, the Axis Bar vibes are replaced with a completely different vibe. There's a brand new cocktail bar that comes with it - great for sundown particularly and in December, there's a festive menu for their famous high tea. Berries infused tea jelly, cinnamon red fruit emulsion Wagyu short rib, red wine cabbage, kueh pie tee Lobster, asian pear, mini cone Charcoal cracker, confit tomato, mint chutney I liked this trio and there were a few surprises. Wagyu short rib in kueh pie tee was a carnivore version of this vegetarian delight except it was on the sweet side because of the red wine cabbage. As for the cone, a bigger cone would be great! Who would mind more lobster? At first glance the confit tomato resembled salmon confit, small on taste but so yummy! Balik salmon, cucumber, horseradish cream, brioche Foie gras, pistachio lollipop Chicken croquet, porcini, micro cress Beetroot tart, blue cheese, winter root vegetables Things started gett...

Afternoon Three Sum @ Tiong Bahru Bakery

Image
~Invited Session~ Tiong Bahru Bakery has now ventured into high tea and introduced an Afternoon Three Sum (ah the smart pun!) featuring three tiers that promises to bring you round the world, quite nearly. Potted plants are ready for adoption around the café. Three sum begins with three steamers. Drinks are not included in the high tea price but I'd highly recommend their freshly squeezed juices next to their best selling coffees. First tier: Tiong Bahru Bakery's savoury signature Baked Ham and Cheese, Pulled Pork Sandwich, Squid Ink Smoked Salmon The hot sandwiches should be served piping hot for a better experience but no complaints since all are my favourite sandwich stuffings. Second tier: French classics Valrhona Chocolate Tart, Pistachio Raspberry Financier, Lemon Tart Let the sweets begin henceforth! We start off with the rich ones, chocolate and a layer of caramel, a tangy raspberry treat and lemon tart that is hands down my favourite-st lemon tart around! The level...

Tea Lounge Revisited @ Regent Singapore

Image
Tea Lounge is undergoing a massive makeover since16 June and this was a timely farewell to the lounge that I've grown to so dearly adore. Word has it that interim, the weekday high tea will be showcased at Basilico's premises. So I had to do my part as a huge fan of Tea Lounge by booking the last high tea session at its current location pre makeover, just to soak in the ambience and remember the lovely place for the memories that I have had with them. And just over this high tea did the Hubba and I recount the occasions we've spent at Tea Lounge - our first wedding anniversary high tea during our hotel staycation , the last high tea session before I popped , Christmas and now before they renovate. The welcoming dessert piece is always eye catching. Blini Pancakes, Sour Cream, Chives, Eggs, Onions with a medley of caviar varieties While I am not hung up over the blinis, the caviar is the one that gets most attention.  These prawn fritters and mango sauce made their rounds ...
