St Clinton Baking Co. @ Purvis Street

Image
St Clinton Baking Co and their fried chicken waffles and pancakes have long gained a queue and name for themselves as the brunch place. Finally brunch-lunch beckoned and what more a 50 off second mains on weekdays? Sold on the promotion as it is. Smoked Salmon Scramble ($23) Soft Scrambled Eggs, House-smoked Salmon, Scallion Cream Cheese, Dressed Greens Chicken and Waffles ($21) Honey-tabasco sauce, Vanilla Buttermilk Waffle, Maple Butter I was bummed with the spongey and slightly soggy waffles yet maple butter and their signature honey tabasco sauce made up for it. Not to mention, the chicken. I guess the song has been sung to death on what makes a good chicken, and strangely there isn't quite a full proof recipe on THE chicken. Yet, I have to admit being very pleasantly surprised with this crispy battered juicy chicken. Yes, the battle of the waffle and chicken rendered me voting both. Only eaten together did it taste this awesome possum. Buttermilk Fried Chicken Plate ($25)...

Kosnica Cafe @ Duxton Road

Image
I first mistook this as a flower and gift shop - the deluding life sized bears and huge sunflowers that adorned the window display of Kosnica - a dessert shop that specializes in waffles and home made gelato. Daily promotions to keep consumers returning! The cheery interior. And the owner's infatuation with bees. Buttermilk and red velvet waffles ($13.80) Pistachio, Rocher We were lucky to have our waffles in two flavours and recommendations were made for flavour pairings with the waffles.    Slightly dense and so fluffy, this had a kueh texture and chewiness to it too. So yummy! Even on its own without the scoops of gelato.  Tea time specials go for $9.90 with a drink! Kosnica 61 Duxton Road

Wolf Burgers @ Changi City Point

Image
~Invited Session~ The Wolf has emerged in the East, laying claim on several firsts - bringing their famed juicy creations to the East, serving up the first handcrafted specialty coffee concept within Changi City Point and also a brand new waffle menu only for tea! The kinda morning pick up that the office folks around the area really need.  Since Carvers and Co and Pasarbella at Suntec, they have indeed come a long way and trust me to take so long to check them out. Unleash the beast, heard ya! I'm a fries girl at heart, okay, correction junk foodie. And having burgers without fries is cardinal sin - and here comes Wolf Burgers throwing me so many options - kimchi cheese, truffle and smores. What the fries really, because ALL taste so divine. Suddenly, truffle is second fiddle to their over the top fries; torched marshmellows and sweet potato fries taste sweet and savoury and with that gooey texture could very well pass off as the real deal with eyes closed. Do not ever leave wi...

Creamier @ Gillman Barracks

Image
With a weather so erratic and mostly scorching like our weather in this second quarter of the year (and it can only get worse), icecream or any sort of heat relief is my amazing grace these days. Seriously, there can not be a better time to open an icecream shop than now - if I can, I would drink coconut juice and icecream all day long. Creamier, is no new kid on the block. Scared off by the queues and popularity, I never made it to their flagship store in Toa Payoh. Sunday Folk s was unimpressive and I blamed soft serve. Alas, they have brought Creamier to a more centralized location to raving responses. Parking is thankfully plentiful but that only applies to Block 8A outside Masons. Indoor seating are the prized seats otherwise get punished outside with alfresco dining - expect hordes of children on sugar high running all over, couples on dates and anyone with a sweet tooth. The hours to avoid are when the sunlight's at its optimal - which makes for an additional order of ice...

Fat Cat Icecream Bar Revisited @ Bedok North

Image
With my favourite icecream bar, Ice Cream Chefs permanently pulling their shutters at their East Coast Road outlet, I have to venture even further for an icecream and waffle fix. Journey to the east, literally but I am not complaining. The hype seemed to have whittled down, thankfully and nabbing a table on a weekend night was easy breezy - hooorah! Charcoal waffles and honey comb icecream ($9.90) Hands down, best waffles in town in my opinion after so many attempts. That crispy exterior and fluffy innards tastes so good eaten on its own and with a huge scoop of icecream. While I remain hugely loyal to butter beer, honey comb was equally delicious too. Salted Egg Sauce ($1) Somehow every order of charcoal waffles must go with a side of salted egg sauce, I wonder who concocted such a magical brew but it works. And at a dollar extra, every drop is precious. Charcoal salted egg choux ($5) This time there were other salted egg creations, this charcoal choux and a charcoal cake that I was h...
