Ondeh Ondeh Cake @ Beeli Bakes

Image
I was introduced to the best homebaked ondeh ondeh cake by a fellow foodie and took the chance to celebrate Father's Day with it. Hello white beauty! Ordering from Beelibakes is simple, all done via WhatsApp and I even arranged for delivery. Easy peasy. The fragrance of grated coconut is unmistakable and it drapes over the cake so beautifully, I almost could not bear to slice it. A beautiful yet very delicious mess. Layers of pandan sponge and gula melaka drenched grated coconut and more coconut atop. Love your ondeh ondeh and love this too. I would just give up on storebought overly sweet ones!

Ten Butter Fingrrs Bakes

Image
I decided to get cakes from Jenny of Ten Butter Fingrrs again this year for the kids' celebrations. The firstborn's birthday cake was all about going Young, Wild and Three. I really wanted an Ostheimer cake so with that theme in mind, I matched her tree trunk design with a wooden unicorn. Pity this unicorn took a fall before we could even cut the cake hence staining her butt - argh! I love how the tree trunk and toy came together so beautifully, thank goodness for pinterest for always coming to my rescue. A kid's friendly version of blackforest so the threenager could have his cake and eat it. Jenny's sponge cake recipe is always on point, fluffy and moist and lathered with luscious cream and those juicy cherries. I'm hardly a blackforest fan mainly because the layers always end up too wet but this version held up so well - delicious. Another beauty for the princess for her first month and I actually fell in love with the balloons first before leaving it to Jenny to...

Dorizgoh Bakes

Image
The great thing about knowing likeminded foodies is we trade tips where to get the yummiest in our opinion and thanks to a tip off, I get acquainted with Doris and her bakes. She's got a limited menu of swiss cheese rolls and surabaya cakes but I guess that does make her a specialist of it? Pandan Cheese Roll ($30) This is a childhood weakness and so far Bengawan Solo does it best - if only their prices did not keep going up and the amount of cheese diminish. I love pandan fragrance and boy did this smell right out of a pandan fragrance perfume bottle - It was so addictive! They come in a full roll or minis and I had mine sliced at home. Fluffy, fragrant and so delicious, this is truly one that would make us pledge allegiance to. If only there was not a 1 week advanced notice required and I can have it anytime I like! Yam Swiss Roll ($30) In comparison, this was less satisfying somewhat. More of yam essence than yam itself and it was coloured a tad too dark. Yet that said, the ...

Fuwa Fuwa Roll @ Dairyandcream

Image
Since Dairyandcream started selling her bakes I have been very keen to try - and as with most planet aligning occasions - this was one of those. I managed to nab one of her highly sought after bake slots for a go at her famous fuwa fuwa rolls. These Japanese rolls are similar to our swiss rolls only way fluffier and the cream filling is always the turning point. Oh hi, you're beary cute. You know? So then these are by no means light rolls in terms of weight. Somehow 6 of these in the box bore some weight and deceptively I would never have correlated its weight to how light it tastes. The sponge is so daintily airy fairy, it would have been akin to eating foam and that cream - a combination of Chantilly and vanilla custard was the reason why it is a hot seller. A friend says it is magical and I cannot agree more. These cute rolls also come in matcha flavor and those are even cuter than these Rilakkuma inspired ones!

Raspberry Clouds @ Twentysevenbyrachel

Image
As a child, marshmellows were always white and best eaten over a campfire. Sometimes I had them as toppings on my self constructed sundaes and as I grew older and dabbled in cupcakes, these were great for fondant making. It never dawned on me that marshmellows could taste any different from their chewy and sticky texture that I have known all my life or even have fruit infused for flavour. So noob. Christianed raspberry clouds, these were as promised very light, spongey and melt in the mouth. As if whole raspberries went into each of these babies. I would never look at a storebought marshmellow again and the question is, maybe no more store bought ones anymore too.

Twentysevenbyrachel's cookies

Image
I have a sweet tooth and I'm not ashamed to admit so, and coupled with a favourite baker...you bet I have been ordering regularly. Consistency is key at Twentysevenbyrachel's, and it still amazes me how every order is just so good. Blimey. Lychee Chiffon , Yuzu Macarons , Salted Egg kisses and Hae Bee Hiam cookies which I clearly forgot to blog about. Slowly but surely I'll check everything off her menu but cookies are my biggest weakness to date and it is a losing battle fighting calories particularly for her cookies. Rose, Lychee, Raspberry Sables  These on description reminded me of Crabtree and Evelyn's Lychee Rose cookies and bore slight semblance to the famed ispahan. Rose and lychee hints with crumbly sugar crusted cookie studded with raspberries. The pink hue made this girlish and sucha dainty treat for tea. I really need proper chinabone ware to complete the picture. . All of 280 grams was so easy to polish off, in a single seating no less. Dark Chocolate and...

Banana cake by Buttrrfingers, lick your fingers!

Image
I am usually supportive of home bakers, everyone starts somewhere...right? At really short notice, I suddenly remembered I needed a cake for Mother's Day (sigh, one of the downsides to motherhood is having short term memory for almost every other thing except the royal bub himself). Thankfully Natalie took my order and saved my own ass for this very important day for the queen! Blessed Mother's Day! The lattice details all over the cake. Banana Cake with Peanut Butter Frosting ($45) was a heavyweighter - which I attribute to the walnuts and bananas. It was an interesting contrast of dense cake with light frosting. Natalie was sweet enough to share her samples of an upcoming new brownie flavour - dark chocolate rye brownies with sea salt and roasted almonds!
