Whitegrass Restaurant @ CHIJMES

Image
This year the sister picked Whitegrass for her birthday and I had this on my list for awhile now, especially with its Michelin starred status now, it did make it more enticing. Reservations were easy peasy and we scored a table in the separate dining hall and a corner to ourselves. We had an array of starters, array would be the right word since they arrived all at once and it was definitely more than a morsel. Deep fried fresh water crab looked perfect for Halloween with its last motion frozen in a deep fry and dusted with herbs that made this the snack of the meal. Now why was I only offered one, I would have wanted a basket at least! Zucchini tart with yuzu cream is a gorgeous creation of cucumber and zucchini swirled into a tart. I love how pickled this tasted with the tangy yuzu cream. Choux puff with cheese is probably the most pedestrian of the three, not that it was not tasty just that with two very outstanding starters, this just paled in comparison. We were served this...

Basque Kitchen by Aitor @ Amoy Street

Image
Expectations are high for this new opening by Unlisted Collection, especially since the shutters were closed on Black Wattle so quickly and the chef has such illustrious beginnings, think the likes of Iggy's. With an almost impossible to ignore 50 off discount from their lunch and dinner menus, I had to pay them a visit. 4 courses is priced at $45, so that meant I got the below dishes for $26.50, taxes included. Snacks Fried Oyster Jamon Ham Croquette Two fried items for the appetizers proved to be a delicious start. I love how light the batter is, except it was a tad oily. Pickled Watermelon and Cucumber water jelly It is confusing if you read too much into watermelon but I enjoyed the textures and refreshing flavours put forth. Sour dough with handchurned butter Freshly baked and I clearly overdosed on this. Three slices and two large dollops of spiced butter later, I called it a day. Cherry Gazpacho Pickled watermelon, cottage cheese snow Watermelon is probably put to good use w...

Mother's Day Brunch @ Salted and Hung

Image
Salted and Hung has been on my favourite list for quite awhile and their Sunday Brunches are such luxurious and diet busting affairs, it took a Mother's Day celebration to heck them all and enjoy my day. Afterall, mothers dine for free that day! So much win. Charcuterie and Antipasti Bar  I usually overdose at the first stop and regret later, this time round I tried to be a little smarter but still lost to lack of stomach space. The grilled cauliflower is to die for, that scrummy texture with herbs makes for such a delicious treat. Smoked Halibut and Caviar Crostini  Loved the crostini, soso about the smoked halibut and caviar that was oddly bland. Portobello, Egg on Toast  Between the crostini and egg on toast, the latter was brunch food dreams. Runny egg yolk, earthy mushrooms and crunchy toast - I can just eat this all brunch long.  Salmon, Charcoal and Pickles  Also on their set lunch menu is the cured salmon, a briney and very appetizing salmon with pickles. Slowcooked Egg, ...
