Bar Cicheti @ Jiak Chuan Road

Image
Much has been said about Bar Cicheti that is also under the same group as Fynn's, and everytime a restaurant opens I watch and wait for reviews. This particular opening garnered a fair bit of attention and got its stamp of approval - and I was equally curious. Dinner reservations made for a Monday night, it was reasonably filled though not boisterous and I already fell in love with the ambience, jazz tunes all night and we were left with one gap to fill - the food.  Two bread bites and a saucer of olive oil and vinaigrette made us both very happy. Buratina ($25) Greek olive oil, sea salt, burnt onion jam, grilled sour dough Something about burrata that I cannot resist and this was such a lovely creamy one, I'd be glad to sell my soul for cheese alone. More bread continued in this course and the burnt onion jam was the perfect complement. Braised beef tongue ($18) Tuna salsa, onion marmalade I've had so many beef tongue dishes, this was least like beef tongue. More of a b

PetiteJoyBakes - A sweet medley of treats!

~Media Drop~ I'm the dessert girl and cake can be my choice of food anytime of the day though the nutritionist and doctors would balk at the idea - anyhow you get my drift, dessert first is my meal mantra.\ Lychee Rose ($50) This popular main stay on the menu was perfect for our mother's day celebration. This is their ever popular Lychee Rose Cake - a soft rosewater sponge cake with light rose buttercream and generous serving of lychee bits. Using just rose swiss meringue buttercream, this is a fingerlicking yummy creation that we all enjoyed Rose Macaron ($3) Double Chocolate Macaron ($3) These macarons have the cutest feet and I love how the shells are actually chewy and not crumbly. The rose complimented the lychee rose cake with the same fragrance and sweetness whilst the chocolate spelt decadence through and through. Dark Chocolate Cupcakes ($4) Continuing the decadence with these moist dark chocolate cupcakes. Plus point? These are not overly sweet too!  I clearly overdos

Mikuni Revisited @ Fairmont Singapore

Image
Back at Mikuni with the littlest and I guess this visit was to test how child friendly Mikuni is and if it will be a constant in our future meals. This visit we made a point to try dishes from all their counters again just to see if standard has been maintained since Chef Moon moved to Dubai. These ebi crackers have been welcoming us since we started patronizing Mikuni - I'm not a fan of these well worn out wooden sake cups though - the signs of wear and tear is too much. That said, the crackers are still addictive! Dragon Maki ($35) from their innovative sushi menu is for the adventurous. Prawn tempura and grilled eel in a roll and I'm not sure what the traditionalists would think of this bastardised version. Given that Mikuni is not a classic Japanese restaurant anyway, I'm not complaining - their rolls are actually really decent. Tamago Sushi ($10) just for the littlest and he definitely enjoyed this. You can make orders out of the menu like we did! Tsukune ($28) I mis

Eatz Vadai @ Jalan Benaan Kapal

Image
Nested in the row of food stalls near The Cage at Kallang is Eatz Vadai. This mini hawker centre comes to live midday when customers visit it to feed that hunger pang or quench that thirst. We actually chanced upon this during the littlest's sports class and have been looking forward to this weekend treat - wrong priorities eh. At a dollar each, these are fried upon ordering but during peak hours these are already fried and stacked in a pile. Each palm sized fritter fits two prawns in a herbed batter and sold with a generous portion of green chilli padi. I love how theirs is dense and chewy, gotta love the bite there and burst of aroma with every bite. Most other vadais are alot thinner and lacking in some oomph. Best part? The owner is chinese and mastered the recipe on his own. Now say - wow. Eatz Vadai  56. Jalan Benaan Kapal

Yun Nans @ Jewel Changi Airport

~Invited Session~ Hailing from China, this  restaurant specialises in highland cuisine with dishes cooked using ingredients found in the seven tropical belts in Yunnan. The first outside China, the Husband was curious to see how this matched up to the one he tried in Shanghai!  The table of ingredients used in their dishes.  Do you spot any that you're familiar with? The number of herbs and pastes used is a mind boggling array. Raspberry Juice with Tamarind I'd have guessed this were hawthorn than raspberry juice.  Tossed Rice Noodles with Shredded Chicken ($12.90) I love the colours of this dish, vibrant and would qualify as a noodle salad too. Best consumed tossed for the medley of flavours to shine.  One delicious mess.  Yunnan Rice Noodles in Prawn Broth and Black Truffle ($13.90) Exclusively available in Singapore, this soupy one is bound to delight with a rich broth and mild spiciness that lingers.  Steamed Pot Chicken Soup ($23.90) Using only a special breed of black f

DC Comics Super Heroes Cafe @ Marina Bay Sands

Image
Themed restaurants are not my thing but DC Comics Super Heroes was near Sands Theatre and dinner had to be settled before my musical began. Not much choice apart from the food court that is perpetually burgeoning with people. We originally planned for pizza but the dough needed to rise and that would have taken 45 minutes - I'm not sure if it was the sheer timing of dinner at almost 645pm but having to wait 45 minutes for it sounded too incredulously long. If anything, they do their pizza doughs in house and that did pique my curiosity for a return. Aquaman VS Black Manta Burger ($28.90) Mentai prawn and cheese patty in black pepper bun, mesclun salad, shoestring fries Since it was the first visit to the cafe, I had to give these themed burgers a go as well. Comes with a cheese cut out logo atop my black bun which honestly did not taste like black pepper much save for the colouring. The patty was another story altogether - juicy, crusty and legit save for too much salt that was use
