Ooh Mala Cassava Chips

Image
I thought the mala craze would have died down along with Mala Xiang Guo becoming such a part of our hawker culture. Until Ooh decided to change the snack game as well with a series of snacks, potato chips, cassava chips, crabmeat sticks, peanuts and even fish skins. My best bet are on these mouth watering, tongue numbing snacks that would take on my mala xiang guo at its spiciest levels. The lingering fragrance is absolutely addictive and guess what? We are all hooked.

Bread Babu @ Race Course Road

Image
Indian restaurants are a dime too many at Little India and thanks to Eatigo, the prices stood out for Bread Babu. This hole in wall tiny joint along the stretch of big names is too easy to miss even. We start off with a complimentary basket of poppadom, spiced crackers that we all enjoyed. Toddler included! Mutton Kebab ($10) Too gamey for my liking yet the mutton fans felt this was really good - spiced, minced meat and comes with a delicious mint dip. Paneer Tikka ($8) Cottage cheese rubbed with spice and grilled - amazeballs! I never thought cottage cheese could taste this good. Vegetarian Samosa ($4.50) Samosas and curry puffs are my snack weakness except these had a too thick pastry with meh-dinary curry potato filling. Can skip! Cheese Naan ($4.80), Garlic Butter Naan ($4.50), Paneer Naan ($5) Now here's a dish you would not want to miss for the world - the freshly made naans are amazing! Fluffy, golden brown and so chewy, all flavours are on point and my favouritest has

The Great Baan Ying Brunch @ Baan Ying

Image
~Invited Session~ Baan Ying hails from Bangkok and this is their only overseas outlet. Since 26 January 2019, diners can look forward to a feast every weekend over a spread of 12-15 delectable appetisers, sides and desserts. The inviting ambiance has plenty of natural light and even a play area for kids! Weekends are love because of brunches! The full thai spread. Do you spy a favourite you'd like to try? Nam Prik Nam Prik Nhoom, Nam Prik Ong, Nam Prik Shrimp Paste I've never had this but a particular Thai celebrity that I follow adores this so I've been curious about it for a long time! Hailing from North-east Thailand, this comes in varying degrees of spiciness and I found the shrimp paste the closest to our hae bee hiam, without the punch. This can be eaten with dishes or with sticky rice. DIY Som Tum Station Baan Ying had their staff toss up a mean version of somtum. We had a go at making our own som tum which turned out tasting pretty good as well - but of course

Solo Ristorante @ Amoy Street

Image
Saint Valentine's is always a good reason to celebrate and I am a diehard romantic like this. Solo Ristorante, a brainchild of Chef Gabriel Fratini, ex chef at DOMVS Sheraton Singapore. I gave the restaurant a shot yonks ago and it was well nice not great kind of experience. If anything time changes people and I was keen to check out what else he had to offer. Oh hello, the restaurant does honours for male diners who decide that bouquets are over the top pricey for this commercialised day. Tables or counters? A glass of proseco to start the night! Pre-meal snacks of burrata, tomato, olive and salami - I liked what they presented but it was a no brainer course. Grilled Goat Cheese with Hokkaido Scallops and Sea Urchin This was well put together and truth be told I never knew grilled goat's cheese would be this smooth and creamy. Delicious though there was a creamy chunk I still have not figured what it is. Beef Tartare with Avocado Puree and Black Truffle Smooth handchopp
