The Fat Turtle @ Seminyak, Bali
One of the things I looked forward to doing in Bali is visiting their cafes but laziness got the better of me and I ended up accomplishing only 1 of 3 on the plan.
The Fat Turtle is home to fluffy pancakes and good coffee, free wifi too!
No prizes for guessing what's their wifi password.
Crochet knits for sale, anyone?
Iced mocha
Balinese Nasi Goreng (IDR 50K)
Chicken satay, fried egg, homemade vegetable pickles, prawn crackers
It's only in Bali that I'd ever order rice at brunch, for the rice-loving chinaman dad no less. This version was pretty tasty and makes me just wonder if this is a benchmark of how good a restaurant is because every other place we went to had it on the menu!
Big breakfast hardly goes wrong and neither did this one.
Smashed Avocado on Toast (IDR 55K)
Tomato Salsa, Feta Cheese, Two poached Eggs, Feta Cheese
Eggs benny end up too boring for me hence I went the route of smashed arvo.
Ultimate egg porn and I am happy to report, both eggs made their way safely into my tum. I liked the touch of feta cheese to this.
Red Velvet Pancakes (IDR 55K)
Crearm Cheese Mousse, Chocolate Soil, Honeycomb, Vanilla Icecream
The signature red velvet pancakes took quite a while to arrive and won me over with its dark ruby colour. Stacked with layers of cream cheese mousse, I dare say this has to be the best red velvet dessert around next to red velvet cake! I loved how fluffy the layers were and the batter actually held up all the ingredients nicely without being soggy.
Between sweet and savoury, sweet trumped.
Salted Eggyolk Custard Cruffin (IDR 30K)
We ordered this croissant-muffin hybrid because it is also the signature at The Fat Turtle.
I would have expected some lava action with it amidst the crinkly pastry layers but in this aspect this was closer to a muffin than a croissant. That said, salted egg custard was spot on with the right balance of salted egg yolk and custard.
Thank you The Fat Turtle, we had a great time and see you soon!
