The Fat Turtle @ Seminyak, Bali

Image
One of the things I looked forward to doing in Bali is visiting their cafes but laziness got the better of me and I ended up accomplishing only 1 of 3 on the plan. The Fat Turtle is home to fluffy pancakes and good coffee, free wifi too! No prizes for guessing what's their wifi password. Crochet knits for sale, anyone? Iced mocha Balinese Nasi Goreng (IDR 50K) Chicken satay, fried egg, homemade vegetable pickles, prawn crackers It's only in Bali that I'd ever order rice at brunch, for the rice-loving chinaman dad no less. This version was pretty tasty and makes me just wonder if this is a benchmark of how good a restaurant is because every other place we went to had it on the menu! Big breakfast hardly goes wrong and neither did this one. Smashed Avocado on Toast (IDR 55K) Tomato Salsa, Feta Cheese, Two poached Eggs, Feta Cheese Eggs benny end up too boring for me hence I went the route of smashed arvo. Ultimate egg porn and I am happy to report, both eggs made their way sa

Nalu Bowls @ Seminyak, Bali

Image
Slightly before this Bali trip, I reignited my obsession with smoothie and acai bowls. How timely, especially how Bali is for the health/meditation obsessed. There is almost a faithful following paying homage regularly to regain that mental and body balance with the environment and food. So Nalu Bowls, Indonesia's hidden secret that keeps the health conscious going back for more. So popular, they even have merchandise for sale! The island's very first smoothie bowl brand. Doesn't everything sound so good? I was so tempted to have one of each. Their selling point is their usage of local ingredients and freshly made granola! Down a neighbourhood that's definitely pet friendly, even the dogs run free! Ulutwatu (IDR 70K) Smooth Dragon Fruit Blend topped with strawberries, mango, coconut flakes and honey I was dead keen on their only acai bowl on the menu but it was not available. So bummed! This combination was crazy love, tasted like sorbet than a fruit blend and paired w

Sate Babi Bawah Pohon Legian @ Bali

Image
I love talking to cab drivers in a foreign countries because they shed light on the country's  best in terms of food. I mean there's no matter way of eating local than asking a local, right? Sate Babi Bawah Pohon Legian was our answer to dining under a huge shady tree with bellowing smoke clouds. It's probably not as hidden a secret anymore since throngs of tourists were offloaded right after us and began a snaking queue of hungry people. Infact Sate Babi specializes in just one item, flame grilled pork satay. A factory line is formed with basins of marinated skewered meat soaking in some broth and those fanning the satays move in such orchestrated manner, it does seem like clockwork. At IDR 20,000 a stick and these are sold in bags of 10 sticks. Each is skewered with just 2 pieces of meat, fanned and flamed till blackened. So shiok and I love how fat isn't skewered in and it's just pure meat. Cheap thrill and these are possibly the best satays ever eaten because

Twentysevenbyrachel's cookies

Image
I have a sweet tooth and I'm not ashamed to admit so, and coupled with a favourite baker...you bet I have been ordering regularly. Consistency is key at Twentysevenbyrachel's, and it still amazes me how every order is just so good. Blimey. Lychee Chiffon , Yuzu Macarons , Salted Egg kisses and Hae Bee Hiam cookies which I clearly forgot to blog about. Slowly but surely I'll check everything off her menu but cookies are my biggest weakness to date and it is a losing battle fighting calories particularly for her cookies. Rose, Lychee, Raspberry Sables  These on description reminded me of Crabtree and Evelyn's Lychee Rose cookies and bore slight semblance to the famed ispahan. Rose and lychee hints with crumbly sugar crusted cookie studded with raspberries. The pink hue made this girlish and sucha dainty treat for tea. I really need proper chinabone ware to complete the picture. . All of 280 grams was so easy to polish off, in a single seating no less. Dark Chocolate and

SIN - DPS: Singapore Airlines

Image
First holiday for the year and we had our bags packed for sunny Bali! Our options were clearly limited with a baby in tow and I thank god for family helping out on board. At least, I had some time to eat and even snap decent pictures of what we ate. Singapore Airlines was our first choice given how their amenities are on point for infant travel not to mention the automatic seat arrangement with a bassinet, I was already happy prior to boarding. The kind crew onboard SQ942 were very thoughtful, giving us a survival kit of baby food jars, teethers and also a puppet to keep him entertained and also offered either of us a meal first so the other could take care of baby. The western option was bad, for a lack of a better word. Rubbery scrambled eggs and a single pathetic chicken sausage. Seafood noodles which was really mee siam goreng, essentially. I liked the spiciness and wished for more but this was suffice for a start to our trip. The prawns too albeit had a soggy batter were delicious

Best of Basilico @ Basilco, Regent Hotel

Image
~Invited Session~ Basilico embarked on the Best of Basilico, a year long gourment adventure through Italy and this year's focus is on dishes with influence from the four seasons. Diners can expect an appetizer and dessert buffet as well as a main course selection. The stunning centerpiece that greets every diner upon entering.  I just had to do a repost of these wine infused cheeses. Speaking of cheese, the varieties never fail to impress me even when I have eaten them so many times over. Cold cuts and smoked meats galore. Not only is their appetizers such beautiful masterpieces, so is their dessert corner. Starting June 20 to September 25, we explore Spring flavours and sometime in September to January, we herald Autumn. One main feature of this Spring's menu is their 'sharing platters for two' which is great for communal dining.  Summer is the warmest time of the year and brings about plenty of sunshine. The dishes presented were hearty creations.  Every meal begins
