Midautumn 2017: Baker's Well

Image
~Invited Session~ I've known Baker's Well for its healthy muffins and until this year did I realise they also sell mooncakes. On top of the traditional baked ones, they have a selection of miniature snow skin mooncakes. Their mooncake recipes are all handcrafted with less sugar for customers who seek healthy good baked products. Their mooncakes are packed into these colourful boxes and if you notice, the crescent design combines to form a full moon. Sucha pretty shade of pastels for this set of snowskin mooncakes! Their new flavour for the year  is a unique blend of premium earl grey tea and lavender, a recommended must try for all ages.  Mooncake mooncake on the board, whose the prettiest on them all? A cross section of all their snowskin flavours - (Top to Bottom). Rum and Raisin Truffle, Salted Black Sesame Truffle, Champagne Truffle, Yuzu Truffle, Earl Grey Lavender Truffle  and Matcha Green Tea. I liked Yuzu best and felt their alcoholic range is meant for those who pre...

BakBak @ Circular Road

Image
~Invited Session~ Bak Bak is Rong Cheng Bak Kut Teh's latest venture and famed for Teochew White Pepper Bak Kut Teh, Bak Bak presents an opportunity for their new creations aimed at younger consumers. With just 4 cubicles, diners can recreate their Ichiran experience by ordering and paying for their meal through an exclusive app, ServedbyAlfred. Wait to be serve and leave! How simple infact and this is completely in line with the gorvernment's call for a Smart Nation. Pork Rib Soup with Sea Cucumber ($17.50)  A hot favourite at the Sin Ming outlet amongst the elderly crowd, this is packed with collagen and is highly recommended as nutritious choice on their menu. Those sea cucumber slices were simmered till tender and though sounded strange on paper, worked as a combination. Premium Dragon Rib Soup ($10.50) Apart from their usual pork ribs, these dragon ribs are the equivalent of tomahawks with those hammer like rib bones. Meaty and very tender, this is what makes Rong Cheng...

Long Chim Revisited @ Marina Bay Sands

Image
Long Chim at Marina Bay Sands is fast becoming my favourite hangout for Thai food after Patara Thai. Especially when lunch hours are barely packed, food is served at breakneck speed still and quality always ensured. Chef cooking up a storm literally with a number of stir fries.  Miang Mackerel ($18) This appetizer is similar to dishes eaten in the Vietnamese or Korean cuisines, using a lettuce to wrap a mountain of ingredients - noodles, herbs, leaves and mackerel before drizzling with a sauce. A tasty mess with sticky fingers.  Prin's Noodle ($31) Pork, Prawns, Sriracha, Oyster Sauce I remember loving this before and I still love this very much. The way the sauces conjured up such a tasty combination and plenty of wok hei? The strong flavoured dish was very outstanding for me. Green Beef Curry ($34) Chillies, Thai Basil, Cucumber, Roti Sold on roti, these dense pancakes could be passed off as coin pratas and these were so good on their own, I wish they had them under appetizer...

Blue Lotus Chinese Grill House @ Tanjong Pagar Center

Image
~Invited Session~ Blue Lotus Chinese Eating House has been synonymous with one of the island’s sought after chilli crab dishes (too much hearsay and admittedly I have not attempted one myself!) and innovative modern Chinese menus around town and their latest venture at Tanjong Pagar Center is a bold marriage between chinese cuisine and western grill techniques.     The decor is appealing with a chinois chic theme, personally I spent a great deal of time oogling at the painting of the pig and swimming goldfish fixtures amidst the colourful splashes. The partial open concept kitchen allows for the team to have a full view of diners and diners to have a feel of the pacing of the dishes as they get churned out really quickly.  While their signature chilli pomelo crab is nowhere to be found on the menu (bummer!), I was told then that all dishes are unique to the various outlets - and the crab is only available at Quayside Isle as with La Mian and Crab Balls here. What I smart move to ...
