Seasonal Salad Bar @ One@Kent Ridge

Image
Every 90's kid would have grown up with Ponderosa or even Sizzler - thereby admitting my era but the whole point is - healthy eating was introduced very early and before there was Swensen's and the likes redefining how hot meals are consumed, mains and a salad bar were synonymous. Cue Seasonal Salad Bar, one that fills the void that the now defunct Ponderosa and Sizzler left behind. I remember these two places so fondly, that soft serve machine that got us kids ants in the pants excited with rainbow sprinkles on top of that neverending spread of vegetables. I suppose I never quite hated greens. Since 2012, they have been spreading the green movement and four outlets later, I decided to check them out. Spot the oriental choices in the spread! I love my food, coloured. And a soft serve machine always gets me excited. Drinks are not included but can be topped up for a fee - freeflow too! Grilled Salmon with Yakitori Sauce ($29.95) Caramelized and doused in yakitori sauce, the...

Mozza Pizzeria Revisited @ Marina Bay Sands

Image
Back at Mozza Pizzeria for one of those nights where we were both exhausted from thinking what to have and decided to go back to the basics of comfort food - Mozza Pizzeria, a place that we both had great and fond gastro memories of. Parmesan crisps to kickstart the meal.  Fried Pig's Ears with Salsa Calabrese ($15) Thrilled to see this still on the menu, I would have to say Mozza was the first place where I got acquainted with this not so frequently consumed part of the hog and till today remains one of the two places that I know selling this. Battered till crispy and deep fried, my main grouse is it tends to lose the crispiness towards the end of the meal. A delight to have as always and possibly my favourite appetizer of all time. Rucola, Funghi and Piave ($18) Shaved piave, raw mushrooms and a pile of rucola leaves drizzled in lemon juice and salt was what this dish is all about. Yet, it worked so well! None of the fancy infused dressings or truffles or sundried tomatoes for...

These have replaced my foodie adventures for awhile.  I promise to be back as soon as I get some normalcy back.  xx Meanwhile, enjoy the sporadic posts of places that I've managed to sneak out to try!

Mcdonalds gone #jiaklocal

Image
Fine, I have done food fads and possibly followed the fast food giants on their promotional menus even but this has to be a first. Joining the queues on the first day of launch and then surviving to give this hot off the griddle entry. 30th June was the slated date for the islandwide launch of Mcdee's most awaited menu - reads, this trumps even the Angry Birds, Samurais and heck, even Hello Kitty Launch. For real if they launched a hello kitty burger I would be one of those nutcases in line as well. Kitty poision rawks. Enter salted egg chicken burger. Altogether now, squeal and scream. I thought the mania would have stopped by now - I mean what else is there to douse the salted egg sauce on? Prawns, paus, waffles, chips, fish skins, croissants...you name it, it has probably been experimented on. And so the first attempt goes - on the day of launch. Self help kiosks were thought to be godsent with their seemingly faster ordering process and noob me was pretty triumphant with my fir...

CBD Trail: Salads IV

Image
Clearly, trying to eat healthy has gotten more novel for me - considering how many trails have been completed on just salads itself. Presenting, the fourth edition of eating clean in CBD! Toss-In Table Matters International Plaza, #01-17 Replacing Kat and Alfie's space is Toss-in Table Matters. This kitchen has many stations - the salad, meat stove and also the cashier's. So my box of salad makes its way through them first.  Assemble your salad ($5.80) Baby Spinach ($2) Baked Hawaiian Chicken Breast ($2.50) Mixed Herb Yogurt Dressing, Cherry Tomato, Roasted Asparagus, Steamed Brocolli  The original $5.80 would have been a steal if there were not so many add ons to make - and even then The Salad Corner's trumps this in price already.  That said, the good bits about it is my vegetables were roasted instead of the usual raw and there were two types of dressing - one to toss my greens and another served with my protein.  But, I was not expecting my $2 worth of baby spinach to...

Tien Court Revisited @ Copthorne King's Hotel

Image
We were once wowed by Tien Court but I suppose tastings should not be used as a gauge of its regular performance. This Groupon deal could have impacted the quality of my meal since the basics like appetizers were missing and our supposed "complimentary carpark coupon" barely waived half of the $6 parking fee we incurred for less than 75 minutes at Copthorne King's. Seasonal Vegetables ($18) Stir fried with garlic, this had too much gravy for my liking though I liked the crunch of the greens. Peking Duck ($38, Half Portion) This was the tastiest of the night's orders, crispy skin wrapped in egg crepes and served with cucumbers and spring onions. We could do with more condiments though. Chopped duck unfortunately was a tad dry but nothing sour plum sauce could not save. Salted Egg Prawns ($30) Laced with a certain sweetness that was reminiscent of condensed milk tossed in mashed salted egg yolk, still a decent dish except it got a tad too much for two of us. Plus,...
