Lewin Terrace @ Lewin Terrace

Image
February is panning out to be such a month of good food, I may very well have problems playing catch up with the other months! Lewin Terrace for fusion food - Japanese-French infact and its location is not to for the faint and weak hearted. The single flight of stairs that tested our endurance limits - ok, I kid. Imagine being in sky scraper heels and a long dress, that would have been challenging. Enter a well maintained colonial house, this is half the experience won for me usually - the ambience and charm that old buildings exude and this part of Singapore is particularly enchanting. Wet towels. These indulgent dinners have exposed me to a world of table arrangement and table wares, now if only I had the space and the money to have all of these gorgeous pieces.  Two degustation menus for the night, and shame on us for tucking into a late tea just before dinner so we settled for Sho-mi ($108) , a relatively more manageable dinner set. Mochi Cheese Ball, Yuzu Cream Cheese The amuse ...

"No Signboard" Bak Chor Mee @ Seng Poh Lane

Image
Seems like in the past, having no signboard became the easiest way to start a business - and this joins the gang. Nested in the same coffee shop that is brought alive during lunch because of Loo's Hainanese Curry Rice, this stall garners the most traffic in the morning with snaking queues and minimally a 30 minute wait. Early bird catches the worm? Hardly so when the elderly couple move to the tune of lullaby. The full day's menu - they close once they sell out which has been rumoured to be between 2-3pm. Dumpling Soup Handwrapped pork dumplings, the skin is thicker than usual though still smooth and comes with a minced meat broth so comforting - let us just forget the lard thrown in to flavour. Bak Chor Mee ($3) The dry version seems to be highly sought after and comes with enough ingredients to stretch the dollar. Prawn in my $3 bowl is almost unheard of in other BCM stalls so there is a good deal going on - with minced meat, sliced pork, wantons, mushrooms and even a meatb...

Akanoya Robatayaki @ Orchard Parade Hotel

Image
Enter the world of robatayaki, without prices. A slippery road to undertake, honestly because one is playing guess work with the cashier and many a time letting the stomach dictate what the wallet can afford is a humongous gamble. Yet, this gamble paid off for a special occasion. Pick from the produce infront of you. Far and wide range of ingredients.  This is how they reach for the food! All eyes on kinki fish, perhaps next visit! Someone's mangled kinki fish.  Even when raw, these look so good. A trio of sauces is placed infront of me, let the gastronomy begin! Stewed salmon as an appetizer, tasty but I was not expecting a dish not easy to eat with all the bones. Eggplant ($22) There is something about miso paste and eggplants that automatically becomes a must order each time opportunity presents itself. Is it the savoury paste or sweetness of the eggplant that works, I know not but this became one of the must orders. Garlic ($20) Ok, first I baulked at the size and subsequentl...
