CNY 2020: Cherry Garden @ Mandarin Oriental

Image
~Invited Session~ Back at Cherry Garden to check out their CNY menu, they're known to luxe up and size up dishes just for this festive season. We began the meal on a different note this year - mocktails! Mocktails courtesy of MO Bar, this pairing ain't that bad! Refreshing and sweet, just what I need instead of chinese tea. Luxurious Pen Cai Whole head abalone, lobster, scallop, king prawn, sea cucumber, dried oyster roll, conpoy, dace fillet, black moss, chinese mushroom, tientsin cabbage, yam roasted pork belly, roasted duck, chicken and wolfberries Every year Cherry Garden wows with the sheer size of their pen cai course and this year is no different. The basins are usually large enough to feed 6 or even 10 comfortably. One gets a whole balanced meal and more, I got lost in the whole universe of sea creatures and actually relished the broccoli and cabbage towards the end, sometimes the most humble ingredients are the most comforting. Great with rice, and may I caution agains

CNY 2020: Paradise Teochew @ Vivocity

Image
~Invited Session~ CNY is just round the corner and as we bid farewell to the Year of the Pig, it's the time of the year to book those tables early or reserve the takeaway sets and avoid disappointment. Prosperity Abalone Yu Sheng (Dine-in and takeaway: $46.80/8pax ; Dine-in only: $66.80/12pax) Paradise Teochew's yusheng prices are really competitive and for really decent yusheng, I'd say have a toss! Auspicious Black Truffle Kampong Chicken Doubling up as a soup course, this is perfumed with black truffles and comes with a decent portion of tender chicken. Grandeur Treasure Pot ($258/5pax; $398/10pax for dine-in and takeaway) Grandeur would suit this pencai's name, we start with oysters, scallops and even abalones before the other layers of ingredients surface. I found this a tad too salty when eaten on its own, pairing with rice would be the next best alternative. Fortune Lotus Leaf Glutinous Rice Have your lotus leaf rice and eat it, Paradise Group's version had m

CNY 2020: Park Hotel Clarke Quay

Image
~Invited Session~ Park Hotel Clarke Quay should really consider opening a chinese restaurant, considering how talented Chef James is. His annual CNY dishes are never repeated and they have not disappointed. This year, he has gone creative with classics, read on to find out which! Auspicious Abundance Yu Sheng The gold specks enticed me, to be honest. The layers of    purple cabbage, carrots, alfalfa, white and green radish flanked by seared USA scallops and sprinkled with a special ingredient.  Seared USA scallops topped with ikura! For the Year of the Rat, we have an auspicious fried crispy silver needle ‘loh shu fun’ noodles, this is way more addictive than crackers or keropok! The density of this is so addictive! Their dressing is a combination of refreshing pomelo, zesty lime and home-made plum sauce together with a generous portion of oil.  Before After the dressing up and before the mess. Tossed and served, I've always enjoyed Chef's James' yushengs, the balance betwe

CNY 2020: WanHao Restaurant @ Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza

Image
~Invited Session~ Wan Hao, one of Singapore's leading Chinese Restaurants has alot to offer this Chinese New Year. From takeaways, ala carte orders to set menu, there is something for everyone. Lobster, Alaskan Crab, Scallop, Salmon, Caviar and Crispy Fish Skin Yu Sheng with White Peach Sauce and Passion Fruit Pearls Lobster yusheng kickstarts the celebrations and the starts the night on a high note. The lobster, crab, scallops and salmon combo made the salad suitable for carnivores. Go easy on the white peach sauce as the passionfruit pearls give this a surge of sugar. HUAT a mess. Fish skin always gives this a lovely crunch and I reached for so many portions! Bird's Nest Dumpling with Crab Roe Superior Soup The cholesterol tussle between luxurious bird's nest and indulgent crab roe is real and when both are presented in a single broth, every slurp was precious and so delightful. Wan Hao Imperial Pot of Prosperity with Australian 3 Head Abalone, Drunken Chicken and Crispy
