Sumo Bar Happy @ Waterloo Street

Image
Sumo Bar Happy fits the bill for hole in wall eatery, I swear I walked passed this so many times, the only thing that caught my eye is their huge hole in the wall that doubles up as an easy entry or exit point for customers. They have recently tweaked their opening hours to Thurs - Sunday for lunch and dinner and only dinner from Monday - Sunday. Bone-In Short Rib Ramen ($42) 600g bone in US prime short rib, red wine tare, house made yakiniku sauce Spicy Tonkotsu broth ($2) Good for two, the companion and I were clearly overfed when it arrived. The bone in itself was such a photogenic piece of art, I swear I could be full just on that. The broth was rich, flavourful and very tasty - all those hours of simmering definitely did the ramen some wonders. I love the smokeyness of the broth, just inhaling breaths of this was enough to satiate my ramen craving. Who needs a Japanese dude to decode a winning bowl of ramen? Not quite, I say when Sumo Bar Happy made things all so right. I would h

Koh Sushi and Grill Revisited @ Wisma

Image
Wow, has it been 5 years since I paid Koh Sushi a visit? They've gotten slightly more space and the queue system less chaotic. I remember waiting up to 30 minutes in line for a table but by a stoke of luck we scored one almost immediately. Prices seemed to be constant and portions similar to how I remember them to be. Here's my chowdown, I definitely got caught in the whole fried fish skin business, I had them dunked in mayo and they were so addictive! Pitan Tofu ($4) The same dish I try to replicate at home and I'd say, I've mastered it pretty well! This is a reminder why I should eat at home more often, pricey portions! Chilled tofu with diced pitan and topped with pitan sauce and spring onions. Sounds that easy? It is that easy! Shiok Maki ($16.80) Grilled eel Shiok Maki Version 2 ($16.80) Prawn Tempura Koh Sushi and Grill is famous for these shiok makis that resonate so well  with locals - whether or not it's the name or the hype of this ingredient laden dish,

Beauty In The Pot Revisited

Image
~Invited Session~ We were back too soon for another hot pot session at the pink themed Beauty In A Pot outlet. Too much pink to handle? Till you dine at their private rooms that comes with individual hotpots, that could be an overload of pink! Dreamy in pink floral arrangements all over the restaurant sure sets the mood for love, all year round. Birthday celebrations are huge at Beauty in a Pot, I just wonder if proposals will be a hit too? Spot their promotion for late night supper kakis. Four broths for the hungry people and I leave you with the must orders every single visit. Our shrimp paste with fish roe order comes with a server who does the cooking too. After cooking and ready to eat! Another must order is their signature fish tofu. Pork and beef are a must order and these usually go straight into the mala broth. Somehow of the broth selection, meat goes best with spice for me. Bi-colour sweet corn was the highlight of the non-meat selection. Swe

Aunty Esther's Salted Egg Fish Skins and Chips!

Image
With CNY done and dusted, I would've expected not to be tempted by the CNY treats making its way round the office. Turns out, it was a bottle of Aunty Esther's Salted Egg Fish Skins that got us all hooked and off we went ordering enough for free delivery. $150 and 19 packets later, we have 7 very happy people. Salted Egg Fish Skins ($8.80) The bomb that got me so addicted. Strangely, with the same salted egg marinate, the fish skins were able to bring out that savoury mildly sweet but finger licking yummy salted egg finish. On point and hands down, best snack this year. Salted Egg Potato Chips ($8.80) Underwhelming as compared to the fish skins, the chips had a decent bite but lost the salted egg battle to overly sweet milk powder. Thankfully my addiction only started after CNY - I cannot imagine the kilos I'd have piled on.

Dragon Bowl @ Marina Square

Image
~Invited Session~ I've not actually checked out Marina Square fully after their revamp and there are quite a number of restaurants hidden in these snug corners! Dragon Bowl being one of them, they now have a total of 3 outlets. Every outlet has a different vibe to it and at Marina Square, this outlet has private dining rooms and a bigger capacity to boot. Dragon Bowl unveils 7 new dimsum dishes and an exclusive Peking Duck set! Steamed Crystal Prawn Roll ($4.80) I should have known better when it mentioned "prawn roll", the skin like cheong fun was a tad too thick and it was not sealed so the ingredients fell out. That said, not my choice dimsum. Steamed Laksa "Cheong Fun" with Shrimp ($6.80) I'd have given this top marks for creativity and this was more of shrimp cheong fan in laksa gravy. This was missing out on some curry leaves and belachan otherwise, worth an order to check out the hype! Steamed Xiao Long Bao with Scallop ($5.80) The tip to taking on a
