Panko revisited @ Arab Street

Image
With my obsession with Panko, it is a matter of time before I returned again - and with more company! Chicken Karaage  ($16) These chicken nuggets are best eaten with a dash of lemon juice - nothing quite beats piping hot chicken tenders. Truly fried food at its best.  Chicken Cha Siew Ramen ($24) As much as I should trust my instincts about ramen, I usually cave into temptations and this was one of those. A kushikatsu place also dabbling in ramen - clearly it is not their topseller and is offered just to complete the repertoire of offerings. Negitoro Ikura Don ($18) This petite bowl was high on aesthetics and taste, and probably the lowest in portions. One of those that I order for variety than getting full on. Assorted Seasonal Kushikatsu Moriawase ($23) (Prawn/Sawara/Nagaimo/Brussel Sprout/Stuffed Chicken Wing/Unagi Gobo) I have definitely repeated myself to death on their must tries, spot on delicious regardless what I pick. From vegetables, seafood and meat, there is somethi

Restaurant Labyrinth @ Esplanade

Image
I'm not sure exactly when I started being interested in paying Restaurant Labyrinth a visit and then never got down to doing so. What better time than a birthday, right? Fortunately or unfortunately for me, having a birth date always so close to CNY means some of the magic about the occasion is lost to CNY and the menus are mostly festive catered. Thankfully, their regular menus are still available and off I was whisked to be surprised by this award winning team. This cute as can be table décor, this pestle and mortar sure reminds me of the grand old days where these were useful for grinding herbs! Snacks from the Streets Bak Kwa scone with hand churned butter served alongside a medley of close to heart favourites. The team reinterpreted Panfried radish cake, rojak fritter and chwee kueh in the style of nasi lemak. Each was just so outstanding, it was a party in my mouth and these elements reminded me how much of a melting pot of cultures my little red dot is. That moment of eu

Strong Flour Revisited @ Katong V

Image
Strong Flour had the mother at hello with their al dente handmade noodles, hence the frequent visits and I am really on my way to trying every item they have on the menu, assuming I do not keep ordering the favourites. Ham and Cheese Panzerotti ($12) A must order every visit and since I was introduced to it, we've never looked back. One incredible appetizer with sucha lovely crisp and the buttery layers that makes the ham and cheese actually seem like second fiddle. Beef Ragu ($19) Beef shin, red wine sauce Hearty stuff here with shredded beef and a wholesome broth. The dish could do with some heat, but that is just me trying to turn this into a 紅燒牛肉麵 . Limoncello Barramundi ($20) Limoncello marinade, sour cream, chive potatoes, tomato puree Pan seared barramundi and sour cream potatoes on a bed of spinach made me a happy chomper. Carbonara ($17)  has taken several tweaks and I hope this version stays - on point tasty without being too jelard not lacking in flavor. I'm a carbon

Arteastiq @ Plaza Singapura

Image
Arteastiq at Plaza Singapura is a great place to car watch and people watch, quite literally given its good location overlooking Orchard Road. Apart from art jamming which they are known for, they offer up all day brunch dining options. Sweet Potato Fries ($12) Served with Horseradish Aioli Beijing Dynasty – Crepes Au Canard Confit ($28) Japanese Cucumber, Duck Confit, Citrus, and Orange Marmalade wrapped in Crepes, served with Pomelo Coulis and Mesclun Salad Think duck confit deboned in a wrap. Hearty stuff and this was really appetizing with the pomelo coulis. Allegory of Love – Chicken and Waffles ($16) Crispy fried Marinated Chicken tossed with Mesclun Salad, Fried Shallots, and Radish in Lemon Vinaigrette, served on Waffles with Maple Syrup Prima Deli could have set the bar for waffles and I actually like mine slightly soggy but fragrant. This was crispy and bland, and while the chicken and salad looked good on description, it was none of that. Thoroughly bland and disa British

Tandoor Revisited @ Holiday Inn Orchard Centre

Image
My family's tradition over CNY includes dining at Indian restaurants - we get quality food, good service and best of all, the tranquility of the restaurant instead of the hustle and bustle of Chinese restaurants that sometimes gets too much for us. The peace and quiet over a public holiday no less, how rare! Mulligatawny Soup ($15) Since the first bowl, I am excited every single time I spy it on the menu. Visually this was the least like any of the other mulligatawny soups I've eaten and looks are deceiving, I almost waved this off as an over priced gruel. Behold the surprise when the broth was robust, rich and had rice grains in it. Punjabi Samosa ($18) These samosas are like curry puffs, I love that doughy exterior and the mouthwatering potato filling. Ajwani Macci Tikka ($40) Tikka cod fish is a first and I was definitely keen to see how the chefs could literally whip up a storm with a tricky ingredient like cod. The flesh was moist, coated with a thin layer of spice and th
