Chicken Up @ Parkway Parade

Image
Think Chicken Up and Korean fried chicken comes to mind but they actually offer more than their famous wings. Their platters feed 2-3 pax pretty comfortably and thanks to Entertainer, I had two of such platters amongst 3 of us which was clearly too much - but I do love seeing the table full of food! Case in point. Both platters had different ingredients and had different flavor profiles but ample cheese - HOORAY. UFO Snow Squid ($38) This bean paste based stew was served with a full battered squid with rice cakes, gyozas, cheese, corn and kimchi fried rice too. Very hearty indeed. My only grouse is the stove was too hot and we were not exactly briefed how to control the heat either so my kimchi soup ended up bubbling all over the other compartments too. The Bulgogi Beef  ($32) version came with mung bean noodles, mushrooms, cheese, grain rice and beef of course! This leaned towards the sweeter side which was a nice contrast to the strong flavoured squid pot. Both platters were lad

The Lime Truck @ Pasarbella, Suntec

Image
I have to thank Travel and Living for piquing the interest on food trucks, except the part of the world that I belong do, this is a fad. Hooray is having it as one of the concepts within Pasarbella so I can dine in comfort - cues, airconditioning. With just 3 categories of food options, Tacos, Bowls, Sides and Sweets, it is no brainer what a hungry diner should look at. In my case, I ended up ordering this much. Tacos is a must order at The Lime Truck, I wish I had the capacity to try all flavours so those attempted are what I'd order based on description. F ried Chicky ($4.30) Buttermilk fried chicken, lime seasoning blend, Dijon slaw, pickled mustard seeds, house pickle, flour tortilla, side of ranch Truth be told, I've not had a life changing butter milk chicken...yet. So this was regular fried popcorn chicken topped with really delicious sauces and salads. No. #1 Steak ($4.60) Sweet and spicy steak, soy ginger slaw, wonton skins, cilantro chimichurri, house corn tortilla T

PS Cafe @ Raffles City

Image
P.S. Café has finally arrived in town and claimed the accolade of hottest table for the month - reservations are only accepted by phone before 12 noon and the queue forms whilst the restaurant bustles and waiting time goes up to 30 minutes during lunch. Boohoo. Service is signature of PS Café, warm not intrusive, accommodating not exceptional but I was really there for the ambience and PS signatures (damn us for overordering and I missed out eating the sticky date pudding!) As a caveat, the portions are huge hence the corresponding price tags. Beer Battered Fish and Chips snapper fillet, shoestring fries with homemade tartar, kaffir lime aioli The crispy batter was so addictive, I could've just eaten that alone and be satisfied. I like how any other fish is used apart from dory as the fillet, loved the kaffir lime aioli and who can resist fries? The PS Burger 200g wagyu, US chuck patty, vintage cheddar, wilted spinach, crispy smoked bacon, tomato, crispy onions, toasted sesame bun

Stirling Steaks @ East Coast Road

Image
I love the whole humble beginnings from a coffee shop stall and finally the hardwork pays off and the stall gets upgraded to a proper restaurant - Stirling Steaks is one of these success stories (and while I mourn the closure of Carvers and Co), I welcomed them into the 'hood. It felt like Carvers and Co with brighter lightings and still very cramped dining conditions. IG gave a heads up on the queues expected and I highly recommend reserve before going - else face a snaking wait list and alfresco seating. Haloumi Salad ($11) Those pan fried goat's cheese disguised as tofu were the hidden tigers in this unassuming salad course. Refreshing with a spot on dressing and those tasty cubes. Classified a must order and I say so too! Stirling Sliders ($3 each) Happy hour must have gotten the better of me when I caved into these mini burgers. Soft patties in between toasted buns and a slice of tomato. Ribeye 250g ($31.90) Sirloin 250g ($29.90) And the big wigs are served! We h

Gone nuts over acai!

Image
I am usually slow to taking on food fads and the acai berry is embroiled in my quest for healthier living. Mostly mispronounced, it is supposed to read ah-sigh-ee and this famous berry purportedly tastes like chocolate the more you chew on it. These acai bowls are fast replacing smoothie bowls as the must have and a ton of goodness goes into it from fruits, superfood seeds, coconut water as well as acai. Good things aside, I slurped my way into this many bowls to bring you this acai trail! NGreen 11 Collyer Quay, The Arcade #01-27 Acai Bowl ($7.90) Housed within a fruit and fruit juice stall is a corner that also caters to acai bowls. The bowl came with a medley of mangoes, dragonfruit,  kiwi, blueberry, strawberry, banana granola, goji berry, cacao nibs, coconut flakes and chia seeds. Goji berries made this tick, and the chocolate game was strong here. I actually liked it so much, it started my obsession with the acai berry. Absolute Acai 3 Pickering Street #01-38 Crunch Bowl

Muji Cafe @ Raffles City

Image
I love lifestyle cafes and CafĂ© Muji was one of those that I've earmarked to visit when they first opened. Thankfully the hype has settled and lunch crowds are more manageable. There are a number of basic sets available - Japanese and Western. The Japanese set ($8.80) had a side of Minced Chicken, 1 Cold Deli, White Rice, Onsen Egg and Miso Soup. Pretty good portions for ladies. The menu is fairly simple with a number of sets and ala carte options. Hot dishes ($4.80) and cold dishes ($2.80) are better off ordered ala carte if the carbs do not appeal. They have white rice, a special 4 grain rice and bread rolls. Selection of 4 Deli ($16.90) Beef Patty with Yuzu Mushroom Sauce These meatballs were a tad stiff and on the bland side. Sakura Chicken with Curry Miso and Dried Chilli Chef's recommendation with a dry curry rub and crispy skinned chicken cubes. I would have expected some heat at least, but nada. Just pretty decent fried hormone free chicken. Inari Salad with Ginger Mi
