Kraftwich launches a series of guilt free gourmet sandwiches!

Image
~Invited Session~ KRAFTWICH by Swissbake is Health Promotion Board’s latest healthier dining partner! Lunch just got more nutritious with their series of guilt free gourmet sandwiches, all under 500kcal. The artisanal Kraftwish bread used has a ton of grains promising plenty of nutrition in every bite! Think wheat, soya, sunflower seeds, flax seeds, rye and oats. I had a go at their Pulled Beef Kraftwich (389 Kcal), one of the two Kraftwiches served hot alongside Spicy Chicken.  Hearty sandwich with a delicious pulled beef filling and the green works of lettuce, tomatoes and onions. I found the portion way bigger than the usual takeaway sandwich, way more filling than I expected it to be. Other delicious flavours include thai spicy chicken, smoked duck, portobello, beef pastrami, tuna and egg, smoked salmon and also turkey ham! Each retails at a pocket friendly $8.90.

Catering with Delihub

Image
Way before food delivery of individual portions became a hit, we had food delivery for the masses, i.e. catering and we went back to basics for a mass gathering of 30 people. Having tried Meihao99 and Yeh Lai Siang, the crowd still chose to go with Delihub because of their signature curry chicken. This is perhaps no secret that the kitchens of Orange Clove, Neo Garden and Delihub are the same hence if budget is an issue, opting for Delihub still gets you their signature curry chicken! Potato Salad with Turkey Bacon Sin Chow Bee Hoon I am torn between bee hoon or fried rice with their curry chicken. This was  thankfully not soggy nor limp but tasty and still springy. And as usual, the portion was way too much. Vegetables Medley Too much starch made this actually harder to eat when it turned cold. Spring Onion Fish My main grouse with fish dishes at a buffet is, dory fish is typically used and this was a surprise with whole filets - I am guessing it is tilapia and these were firm and f

Alter Ego @ Esplanade

Image
Alter Ego sounds like a bad assed kid around the block with a dual personality of an three quarter brunch-lunch-tunch concept dishing out Hawaiian poke bowls by day, and bottles of craft beers and sinful bar grub take the stage once the sun goes down.  Original Poke Shaker ($17) Pomegranate ($2) Shoyu Salmon, Sushi Rice, Spiced Roasted Cashews, Pickled Seasonal Veggies, Ikura The Wildcard ($16) Spicy Garlic Sesame Salmon, Sushi Rice, Kale Chips, Pickled Seasonal Veggies, Ikura Their poke bowls are a spin off from their main flagship, A Poke Theory which I thoroughly enjoyed when they first opened. In comparison, the portions are smaller and prices higher at this outlet. First, they were sold out on lime avocado for both bowls and the alternative was to have more of kimchi since the lime avocado and kimchi belong to the same price point. However, my point was wouldn't both bowls taste the same if they had kimchi too? Anyhow, we ended up topping up a dollar for "peruvian pomeg

Suzette @ Esplanade

Image
Suzette is the sisterbrand of Lola's at Kovan (an area I hardly venture to) so joy is having this located more accessibly at Esplanade. Lychee Rosewater Cake ($7) I probably expected more from this than butercream, canned lychees and buttercake. If anything, it looked pretty on the cake stand. Cinnamon Cheesecake ($9)   Unlike the regular baked cheesecake, this was butter cake lathered with cream cheese and topped with crushed cookies. White Chocolate Durian Tart ($12)  And the single dessert makings its round on instagram and in the most corny manner ever - this was befitting since we were dining at the "durian" anyway. Torched meringue thorns over a white chocolate dome and filled with pungent durian pulp. On paper it sounded absolutely irresistible and first bites were delicious except the sourness crept up like a villian - and I'm not sure where that came from. The concept is brilliant, except execution was missing some finesse. I got my picture perfect images

International Buffet @ J65, Hotel Jen Tanglin

Image
~Invited Session~ Hotel Jen Tanglin has just re-engineered their buffet dinner to five weekly themed spread promising variety, freshness, quality and taste! From now till May 2017, the buffet themes include International nights to Asian flavours to Lobster frenzy to live barbecues and seafood galore; each with its unique experience.  On Sundays and Mondays, the “International” Buffet spread comes with a generous selection of roasted prime beef ribs, pork knuckles and Virginia honey lemon ham, baked whole Norwegian Salmon and barbecued pork ribs. The spread was very similar to what I had over Chinese New Year and minor adjustments made to the salad corner.  Seafood on ice is the place to validate the buffet price - crabs, shellfish and all things decadent! Spot the unusual sushi - lobster! Green tea soba to pair with the cold seafood. This hot station is a permanent feature at their buffet, roasts, noodles and occasionally a noodle fry up. I'd be content with a plate of c
